No true, in a couple of years it will be more suited to visit when there isnt as much construction work.

How ever it is THE place to be excited about when it comes to development. At least for me.

read my post again, boy.

as you read, at this time, dubai is not the best holiday place.
it's the vision of my company, that we would build low-rise buildings in dubai. formerly hotels, restaurents and more like that.

Compared to where? I didn't know Dubai existed 3 years ago. Not badmouthing it. I just don't see the huge deal about Dubai.

IMO..

Las Vegas>Dubai

Plus Vegas is 4 hours away. As opposed to half a world away.

Does anyone have online access to the New Yorker article about the inevitable "Dubai BUST Rundown"? Then again, I guess this isn't place to discuss that, is it?

You're right. Not everyone has to like Dubai. What you said is reasonable. I think a good few of those developments are kind of crappy myself (obviously the ones with the puke sign )

BTW I'd prefer if we can keep the fights to another thread. I spent a lot of time doing this so I really don't want it locked. This thread is about projects there so if people want to see pics of the old centre and the likes there are a good few of those threads in the UAE section.

Well, if it's about projects in Dubai (whether positive or negative) then it does have to do with this thread. If it talks about Dubai being fake and all this sort of shite then it can be kept out of here.

Threehundred's rather simple and provincial point is this: Vegas, which on the surface is a "playground and recreational/resort/retreat" (in addition to booming urban city and residential/commercial) offers what appears from an outsider's view to be what Dubai offers in some similarity, AND Vegas is *only* an hour's plane ride or 4-hr. commute from Southern California, Threehundred's locale.

Of course, Dubai's port, financial-vision, et al., truly separate it and provide great distinctions to a comparison to Las Vegas, but in this etherfast-moving world of ours, it will probably take more time and people and experiences for those "under" Vegas' spell to better estimate such important and ulimately synergistic visions that these vibrant and very-much-21st century locales each offer its prospective residents and visitors...

To BOTH my Vegas and Dubai brothers!!

- Worlds largest shopping center
- Worlds largest amusement park
- Worlds biggest artificial islands including; 3 palmshaped islands, the world, the waterfront, Oquiana, and more?
- Underwaterhotel (There is one partially underwater in Florida if i remember correctly, however the one in Dubai is getting larger)
- Modern metrosystem (is it maglev, anyone?)
- Skiing dome (worlds largest indoor skiing facility?)

Worlds tallest structure!!

Dubai, as rapid growing as it is, will not be a quote 'world city' on the level like New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, and yes, Los Angeles. Not anytime soon at least.

The Burj Dubai, as awesome as a building as it is in terms of sheer height, lacks the soul of the Empire State Building, the grace of the Chrysler Building, and the beauty of the Effiel Tower.

Hell, even some of the hotels in Vegas have some sort of history. Name 1 building in Dubai that most of the people in the world know about.

People know about the following terms:

Wilshire Blvd
Grand Central Station
The Tube
Arch de Triumph

Not many people outside of this forum know of Shiek Zayed Mohammed Road (I think that's it.)

Just because Dubai is building the tallest this and the biggest that doesn't make it a awesome city. It has to have character. And soul. It'll get that later on. Just not overnight.

of course guys, for the ones like OURSELVES who know~~

but for those who don't, and let's face it that's the vast majority out there (still), there aren't even DESERT CITIES they're familar with on a global level that's fusing modernity, etc.

So Vegas does come to mind from that particular somewhat myopic and less-nuanced perspective

All that said, I'm setting up in 4 places in the world right now, and Dubai is definitely one of them!!!

Don't pretend to know Dubai by staying a couple of days and spending most of your time within your Hotel. Dubai has AMAIZING low-rise boutique hotels resorsts

One & Only Royal Miragge
Al Qasr
Mina A'Salam
Jumeirah Beach Resost & SPA
The Villas next to Jumeirah Beach Hotel
Park Hyatt Hotel @the Creek
The 2 desert resorts (can't remember the name)

Becouse you stayed on the Emirates Towers Hotels doesn't mean all Dubai hotels are 300 meters talls towers.

You should have gone out more. Sorry but I had to say all that.
