Not many people have heard of it, and the problem there is because it's part of an agglomeration of several equally dominant cities that make up the Rhein Rhur metropolitan area. This metro area covers a similar area to Sydney's Statistical Division but with 12million people in it.

Düsseldorf city proper has approx 570,000 people. Other city proper's in the Rhein Ruhr are Essen - 630,000, Dortmund - 590,000, Duisburg - 535,000, Köln - 930,000 etc etc. They are join together to form the Rhein Ruhr metro.

This is a bit like if Sydney never had a single dominent core, but all the other cities in the metro were equally important such as Parramatta, Chatswood, Ryde, Penrith etc and to please everyone they gave the whole metro a seperate name like "Cumberland Basin metro" or something that meant nothing to the outside world.

Düsseldorf is part of one of the largest metropolitan area's in the world, and pretty much unheard of.

Their loss I suppose.

As for the photo's of the city, they are nice but the skyline is quite average. Düsseldoft does have some lovely riverfrontage on the mighty Rhein.

I was there last year in November to meet queen lizzie and prince philip. I really liked the city. mind the huge bus, police escorts and VIP parties were nice too

I gotta say i give it maybe a 6 for height but when you look over the city from the top of stadttor you see the architecture is really nice. I especially like the small but strange buildings I saw with the grass on, and that one that looks like its covered in tinfoil.
