BEIJING: China World Trade Centre, Phase 3

Name of project: China World Trade Centre, Phase 3
Date of commencement: 16 June 2005
Estimated date of completion: end of 2007, or 2008
Total floor space: 540,000m2
Height of main building: According to official sources, 330m including spire(s) or 300m excluding spire(s). But no spire(s) can be found in the design publicized. Anyway, it will be the tallest building of the city.
Number of storeys of main building: 74 or 75
Present status: foundation works under way

When this phase is completed, CWTC will occupy 17 hectares of land and boast a total floor space of 1.1 million m2, and become the biggest world trade centre of the world.

Model (taken by me in Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall)

impressive design! This area will become great, with this and other tall buildings, and CCTV!

And I love the project in the left bottom corner of this modelpicture, do you know the name of it?

Well, ok, nice design. Too bad the whole city (like Pudong) is proceeding from an outdated "towers in a park" model of urban design. Who will want to walk (from the subway station, say) across these huge empty plazas and along highway-like streets? Manhattan or the Loop it ain't. More like a high-rise suburban office park. In ten years they'll start trying to humanize the context...

Looking at the render, I suspect the last group of storeys could actually be fake ... Not a spire but some kind of crown or roof feature. Similar to Hong Kong Union Square 7/ICC.
