Zuidtangent Bus Lane, Haarlem - Hoofddorp - Schiphol Airport

Although it is no metro or light rail line, I will mention it here though. The ‘Zuidtangent’ is a bus line from Haarlem Station via Hoofddorp, Schiphol Airport and Amstelveen to Amsterdam Bijlmer Station. Between Haarlem Schalkwijk and the office area of Schiphol Noord it runs on a 25 km free bus lane via the village Vijfhuizen, the town of Hoofddorp and the central area of Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. It was opened in January 2002.

The bus stops on this bus lane are equipped with very colourful glass canopies, which look like they are folded. Unfortunately, their protection against the Dutch wind and the rain is not sufficient…

The platforms are painted in a special pattern.

When necessary, the bus lane can be easily converted into a light-rail line in the future.

Randstadrail The Hague / Zoetermeer / Rotterdam

Randstadrail (look at the map in Keezy's post on the first page of this thread) will get some other interesting stations. Most of them are quite simple, I will only take a look at the most interesting ones.

The new Leidschenveen Station, The Hague:

Voorweg Hoog Station, Zoetermeer:
(New platforms will be added at this crossing of the Zoetermeer loop)

A new branch (Oosterheem Line) will be added to the Zoetermeer loop. Three new stations will be opened.

Willem Dreeslaan Station, Zoetermeer:

Oosterheem Station, Zoetermeer:

Javalaan Station, Zoetermeer:

A new station will be added at this crossing in the northern part of Rotterdam

Melanchtonweg Station, Rotterdam:

Another impression of the underground Blijdorp Station, Rotterdam:

Noord/Zuidlijn, Amsterdam

And finally, I will pay some attention to the other new Amsterdam metro stations which Nemo didn't mention in his thread-opener .

Buikslotermeerplein, the northern terminus of the new North/South Line, situated between the lanes of the 'Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg' motorway:

Johan van Hasseltweg, also in the Northern part of Amsterdam, and accessible from the 'Meeuwenei' viaduct:

Vijzelgracht Station:

Ceintuurbaan Station, which will be one of the deepest stations in the Netherlands (together with Blijdorp in Rotterdam) Due to the narrow width of the street (Ferdinand Bolstraat) it will be necessary to place the tunnels on top of each other instead of next to each other :

Upper platform level (16,5 metres below street level) :

Lower platform level (26,5 metres below street level):

Europaplein Station, built in front of the RAI Congress- and Exhibition Center :

station entrance:

I cannot fail to be impressed by the level of public transport development going on in Holland, it's just amazing!
It puts the UK to shame, we seriously need this level of investment to bring our cities up to scratch but the ammount of beaurocracy and bickering is just astounding!

Thanks for posting this information regarding the busway!
The busway is pretty damned cool- i saw it this past april on a flight to amsterdam from vienna. I remember when they started to build it (1999 or so?) but i thought it was going to be an LRT, but when i flew over and saw the busses, i made a double take! I honestly don't think that it has to be an LRT, that can follow later- the stations look decent as well!

If you think UK Transit is lacking, look at Toronto. We spent $ 1.1 billion on an white elephant of a line, which runs approx. 6 km's and to no-where- because they ran out of money- plus it was built in an area, which was semi-suburban!! We are in such a sad state when it comes to Public transit in this city, that we cannot even purchase new LRT's- let alone expand our underground/above ground systems..That is a shame..

What holland is doing is, what every sensible nation should be doing, investing in public transit infrastructure now, before the costs become unpayable, due to higher densities. This is also a very european way of thinking- plan and build...north america is...build everywhere, and have no public transit infrastructure and end up paying for it with huge amounts of grid-lock!!!

go-figure!

Though such renderings do often look better than reality -- it's definitely great news! More and more cities of the world seem to become aware of the benefits of good public transport design and architecture!

Amazing. All of them are not only beautiful but also functional. I esspecially like the Rotterdam pedestian tunnel. I prefer the newer stations which are much bigger and more spacious than the first ones which was only a wider tunnel with a platform.

But our newest station in Warsaw is cool too :P

The train service was and is still normal. 2 things happened at Amsterdam Centraal recently:

1. Renovation old line from Amsterdam Centraal to Amsterdam Amstel during the summer. The metros are running as normal.
2. There were problems with the tram service, caused by problems at the underground station at Amsterdam Centraal. Service is running normal after a day.

It's in reconstruction indeed. A new subway line (North-South Line) is under construction and it will pass right under Central Station.

It certainly is, but train services are still running normal. They are building in, under, in front and back of the station. The platforms are not involved. The main hall and entrance to the platforms is partialy closed and entrance is closed. But it is a large station. Next to the main route to the platforms, it had 2 smaller routes, and 1 has being made even more wide as the old route.
