Northern Ukraine - architectural treasures

Northern Ukraine, or Polissia, as we call it, is a region that includes the region of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr and Sumy. It is historic heart of Ukraine and it home to a lot of Ukraine's architectural treasures. Unfortunately, the region is not very known to foreign tourists, but that's in part what makes it so interesting to explore.

Another unfortunate thing is that due to a previous decade of economical instability, as well as lack of tourism, there have been virtually no renovations done. But at least it doesn't look fake.

Real remainings of a fortress mentioned in 1098 ( which implies that it's even older )

Dobradien!

I agree ... I visited Kiev last spring for the Eurovision Song Contest and the architecture appealed to me. What appealed even more to me were the incredibly beautiful women of Ukraine, which appealed even more to me ... so much that I'm currently in good contact with a stewardess from Zaporozhye that I hope to meet again this Christmas

Those are stunning! The brick Byzantine church is fabulous! Ae there any plans to develop tourist in the area and plough some money back into restoration projects?

I'm not aware of any significant tourism investments in northern Ukraine. Most tourists in this area are local, from other parts of the country. Foreign tourists have yet been avoiding Ukraine, because of stereotypes our country has.

There still are no significant numbers of tourists in the capital city, which has a lot to offer to tourists in all fields of interest. It will come with time. Glad you liked it
