Zaha-Hadid Bridge-Pavilion (Expo 2008)

Zaha-Hadid Bridge-Pavilion

One of the Pavilion on the Internacional Exposition 2008 Zaragoza (Spain). It´s like a gladiolus over the river Ebro.

It would be nice to have more details of the different buildings of this event. There's a lack of information in the officcial URL of the Expo2008. Let's see if they include more details of this and the other buildings.

Nice work Koky!!!!

im in love with this pavilion, but im agree with pedro, there aren´t too much information about expo zaragoza´s proyects.
For instance, Zada hadid is a proyect in the same level than gugemheim in Bilbao, but now, we only know a few photos of it, and less than 3 years there aren´t any machines in expo zone, so citizens need information cos we are impatient about proyects and time.

Greetings from Sweden, great work koky

Expo 2008: Zaha Hadid & Arup win competition

Date: 15/07/2005

Zaha Hadid and Arup have been selected for the preliminary project of the Pavilion Bridge for the Zaragoza Expo 2008, one of the central features of the Exhibition. The theme of the concept is 'Water for Development'. This will be an 'aesthetic and emotional' bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Ebro to access the Expo. Through the bridge, pedestrians will visit three exhibitions relating to the management of water.

‘The wrapping of the pavilion bridge will breathe and act like skin, to create a system of natural air-conditioning’

Juan Alberto Belloch, mayor of Zaragoza
The Pavilion Bridge passes obliquely over the channel of the River Ebro, running very close to the Third Millennium Bridge. It is slightly curved in design and its gentle, flowing forms connect the axis of the intermodal station boulevard with the area of the conference hall within the expo site. Its cross-section is diamond-shaped, comprising four vaults that serve as structural elements and exhibition zones and cover a surface area of 7000m².

The structural base of the Pavilion Bridge will be made of concrete. For the envelope of the building a material composed of glass and plastic, inspired by the scales of a shark, is being investigated. The objective is to create a natural microclimate inside, as the exhibitions will be closed to protect visitors from outside climate conditions.

The execution of the Pavilion Bridge is estimated at two years and has an initial budget of 25 million euro. After the Expo 2008, the infrastructure will house a museum on technologies and water.

Strange?

Hadid has a history of using beautiful sculptured forms in her architecture. This bridge continues to prove her amazing talents to do so.

The fabulous Hadid herself (She is one of my favourite female architects along with Japan's Itsuko Hasegawa):
