I have been to Akshardham a number of times on my visit to India. I have heard a lot about it and was attracted towards its craftsmanship. I haven't seen any other temple like this one anywhere else in the world.

Akshardham has become an icon for delhi after the India Gate. It should be announced the world heritage by the UN.

Even India gate is not a world heritage, though there are 3 other structures in the city which are world heritage. I think they consider historical monuments for this classification.

Thats right, heritage & cultural sites that are worth preserving for future World generations of its importance in World history.
Akshardham is relatively new & is looked after. Many other monuments, temples, buildings around India (Delhi) are not. UNESCO heritage status will help preserve the monument/building for future generations. There are many other monuments in Delhi that I think derserve the UNESCO heritage status like Lutyens Delhi, monuments in Lodhi Gardens (if not whole of Lodhi Gardens), Old Fort to name a few. I think Humayuns Tomb, Red Fort & Qutab Minar are World Heritage sites in Delhi. |

i visited this temple few days ago and let me say without a doubt in my mind. it is one of the best work of art and architecture in India. it is definitely worth seeing.
it is indeed on top of my delhi "must see" list. regarding world heritage thing, this monument deserves to be in the list. infact this should be 8th wonder of the world. but we should not look for any status from outside world. we know it is beautiful and thats it. if being heritage structure means better maintenance and preservation of the site then i think there are other buildings in India and delhi which need more attention. Akshardham is a living and breathing structure, it makes enough money to look for itself. atleast this structure doesnt need any help but the others do. PS> its a shame that they dont let you take cameras inside. this thing can be most photographed building of Delhi since every square inch of this building is done with so much detail.

Definately top of Must see list in Delhi. Was surprised foreign media did not mention anything on this during commonwealth games, even though it was so close from the games village.
