It's one of the most hideous buildings I've ever seen. I think we can wait until the 22nd century.

I may be willing to see this in a different location, possibly wolf point? but this is an aweful idea to build it right next to the chicago spire, that and the design is far from the best thing i've ever seen.

Sears Tower's only pizzaz are its communication antennae. Rather than see a future Sears Tower shorn of that feature, I'd prefer they be retrofitted or replaced by the next generation of antennae. One two-thousand foot free standing structure is enough for now, pending some colossally good future site.

You aren't kidding, Frumie. Sears' antennae are what transforms it from stubby (though tall) to soaring. If this 2000' concrete pole succeeds in Toronto-izing our skyline AND indirectly gives Sears a bad haircut, we're going to look back fondly in 10 years on the impressive skyline we used to have...

i think thats exactly what Mr. A is saying.he's saying that the antennae need to stay. he was suggesting that we perhaps build updated antennae for the sears rather than building this new .......thing .the 2000 ft structure hea refering to was the chicago spire

Good, so you are saying we should jave this TV tower way taller like 3000 ft, since we already have one 2000 ft. Chicago Spire underway!

BTW, how long of antenna are you planning on? 1000 ft? Such a silly thing to see on top of sears tower!

architecturally/aesthetically, what's wrong with this building? Puts most efforts (building or otherwise) to shame.

From an infrastructure standpoint, the need to build a 2000ft antennae is reprehensible, but if for some reason it's better to build this than to retrofit existing antennas, the aesthetics are fine by me.

I think everyone here is jumping to conclusions. We have only seen renderings of the building. Shouldn't we wait to see what the final renderings look like before we call this project shit? In the right location this could be a really cool thing to look @. Also, if it were set away from downtown, we would have a hell of a view. I say patience with this thing, and I like the idea of having the strongest HD signal on the planet.

I just don't like the idea of cluttering our skyline with 2000 foot towers. To put this anywhere in Streeterville, River North, Gold Coast or the Loop would definatly give a cluttered look.

I don't see how the final renderings would change my mind unless they change just about everything. If they can come up with a striking design with an observation deck and incorporate it into the Convention Center, I'd be all for it. But as is, it stinks.

So.... you want a tall building to not go where other tall buildings are? Isn't clutteredness the point of a skyscraper city core?

With all due respect... two of the dumbest things I've ever read on this forum.

Quote:
Wolf Point would better serve as a park.
Right, because parks *cough* Vietnam Memorial *cough* do so well along the river and we need yet ANOTHER one. Especially in an area as easy to access as Wolf Point (sense the sarcasm).

I'm not even sure how to respond to this. This is, by far, the most ignorant comment I've ever read. Maybe we should knock down Sears, the Hancock, Chase Tower, Aon and 900 North - after all, they're sort of making our beautiful prarie-like CBD look a bit... congested... no? Long live prarie-grass and sprawl!!!

If they build it great, if they don't, I won't be too dissapointed. This really isn't a "skyscraper", just like the CN tower isn't imo. Obviously, this would be built much more quickly than say Trump, Waterview, or the Chicago Spire.

^ LOL. The whole point of Chicago's skyline is to be cluttered. Let the cluttering continue!
