Beautiful! This is really classy. Who designed it?

I suppose I don't mind the loss of the plaza, now that I've seen the rendering of the square planned for the Post Office site.

I had no idea that was going there. Do we know the height and expected completion?

In the Central Area Plan, released 2003. This is not the finished design, but the setting is nice for a park. Imagine sitting in the park and looking at the surrounding buildings.

The picture they edited was taken looking south. The building under construction on the left is Grand Plaza. There is a blue projected building site above the park that has actually seen a recent proposal for a Hyatt Place hotel, which probably won't fall through, but is planned for a 2010 opening.

I added street names to the rendering to ease confusion.

Chicagophotoshop - it's actually caddy-corner from the McDonalds, but close.

The park is a nice idea. It's just too bad that it will be fronted by the ugly bases of Grant Plaza and Farallon, Rain Forest Cafe and McDonald's, and parking lots.

The Global Hyatt Corporation (HQ at 71 South Wacker, btw) does not foresee the demand for a hotel here until 2010. They have an exclusive contract with Friedman Properties (who owns the lot) to build here, but AFAIK they have not planned very far beyond that.

The proposed hotel has 216 rooms. On this lot, that could mean a 10-story building, depending on how much meeting space they want.
