And since March 2011 two airlines will fly from Barcelona to São Paulo: Singapore Airlines and Iberia.

if Barcelona Airport had a capacity of 70 million passengers per annum, would it be served by two runways or three? (Can't deactivate the current diagonal NNE/SSW runway and build a new runway because of constraints.)

Only the 2 parallel runways are being used nowadays.
The "diagonal runway" is only used in case of emergency, different winds or bad weather conditions.
This year BCN El Prat airport will reach and maybe surpass 35 milion passegers! It can be the 29th in the world and the 7th in Europe!

Yes, it seems that Qatar wants to buy a part of Spanair and change the name of this airline. We will see in the next weeks...

2nd. Paris Charles de Gaulle: 60.970 M passengers (+4,8%)
3rd Frankfurt: 56,44 M passengers (6,5%)
4th Amsterdam Schiphol: 49,8 M passengers (10,2%)
5th Madrid Barajas: 49,7 M passengers (-0,4%)
6th Rome Fiumicino: 42,48 M passengers (+3,8%)
7th Munich Franz Josef Strauss: 37,5 M passengers (+8%) (EXPECTED)
8th Istanbul Atatürk: 37,45 M passengers (+17%)
9th Barcelona El Prat: 34,40 M passengers (+17,8%)
10th London Gatwick: 33,64 M passengers (+7,3%)

BCN was the main fast growing airport of Europe in 2011!
