For me, it's a draw - The tower on the Hearst building, though it does have a nice, shiny-shiny facade and some lively angles, doesn't go with the Art Deco base AT ALL, especially with that flat top. They needed to start the tower off with a stone facade to match the base, gradually move to glass and metal, add some set backs, and finish off with some kind of a spire up there (any 'scraper that's even partly Art Deco DEMANDS a spire)...

Swiss Re, OTOH, dosen't impress me either - it's the giant pickle that ate Picadilly, for crying out loud, which makes it nothing more than one VERY lame one-liner. It also proves, once again, that most architects need a special, advanced license before they're allowed to handle serious curves, lest they overdose on the non-linear...

Sooo...No winner...next contestants, please?

Swiss Re. The base for the Hearst Tower clashes.

However, the Hearst Tower tends to have a more dense background with it.

Are you crazy??? Are we even looking at the same buildings here? How can you not like the top of Swiss Re?

I mean, just look at it, is sooo aesthetically pleasing:

and when you compare it to the Hearst Tower, with its hideous base and fairly bland design:

it is riddiculous to even compare the two

Swiss re is a silly egg. Its a bit much for me sometimes. :/

I think Hearst has a wonderful facade, but a funny base.
