They're doing a few projects in the area, including the restoration of that historic building in front of 1 Peking. You can see the large trees being held in pots high above the basement excavation. Once that is complete the whole area will be very well beautified. Then there is the Kowloon Southern Link happening underground with some barriers further east near SOGO, and perhaps the Star Ferry bus terminus relocation may happen a few years down the road. We're getting there.

indeed, the road on the waterfront is ridiculously hard to cross considering it's such a busy tourist area. however, a couple of years ago it was complete carnage so things are definately improving.

the construction i really don't understand is the 'wing on plaza' thing. it's been under construction for years but never seems to change. is it something to do with the connection to KCR west rail?

The trees were originally up there and they had to be preserved so they drew sheet piles around them. Once the new development is completed the whole thing will blend into the development. The slopes of the little hill where the old police station stood were not completely safe after the excavation, so they bored through the whole thing horizontally and inserted tension members.

Yep, but still this building is a bit hideous. Maybe it's something to do with its location and orientation I guess.

There are some fairly old buildings in the vicinity of this redevelopment. The focus is now on these ones for redevelopment as well. The location is quite good now that the new KCR East Tsim Sha Tsui station is open. There is an entrance just across the street to the east of the construction site.
