The penthouses, or whatever they are at the top of the tower, were unveiled today (or before) - didn't think it was possible, but the developers must be congratulated.

They're ******* uglier than the rest of the bleeding tower!

I don't think they are the same hotel...the Hotel Panorama is on the coner of Hart Ave. and Blenheim Ave. The Hanoi porject is on Hanoi Road and Carnarvon Road...

Ah, I'm mistaken then.

Still, the façade for Hotel Panorama looks better than whatever the feck's going to be in Hanoi.

Hotel boom, write-back boost
New World profit Developer sees earnings surge to HK$4.31b

12 October 2007
South China Morning Post

New World Development, the city's sixth-largest developer by market value, returned to an underlying profit as it wrote back a provision made for a litigation case and income from hotel operations grew.

The company wrote back a HK$1.59 billion provision after technology investment arm New World TMT last December won a lawsuit against US-based PrediWave over video-on-demand and digital broadcasting technology it had ordered.

Net profit, including a property revaluation gain of HK$1.26 billion and the write-back, climbed 307 per cent to HK$4.31 billion from HK$1.06 billion a year ago.

The gain in net profit was mainly due to growth in rental income and revenue from the service business, which recorded a 22 per cent and 57 per cent increase respectively.

Revenue from hotel operations rose 59 per cent due to an increase in room and occupancy rates.

Stewart Leung Chi-kin, executive director, said extension work at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Wan Chai would begin next year.

Turnover dropped 2.61 per cent to HK$23.28 billion. Earnings per share were HK$1.17, up from 30 HK cents in the previous year.

The developer booked HK$588 million from inventory sales at completed projects, down 61 per cent from a year ago.

Managing director Henry Cheng Kar-shun yesterday said that the drop in sales was due to the lack of development projects completed during the financial year.

But he expected sales to improve next financial year, with plans to launch five residential projects totalling 3,642 units.

The projects to be completed in the next two years are expected to generate sales of about HK$13 billion.

Harbour Place in Hung Hom, a luxury residential project at Black's Link, the first phase of the Ma Tin Road project and a serviced-apartment project at Hanoi Road in Tsim Sha Tsui will be completed this year.

The Prince Ritz project in Kowloon City launched last month is 40 per cent sold. New World has a land bank of four million square feet and was negotiating with the government to convert agricultural land into residential sites.

Despite agents and analysts expecting property prices to jump more than 40 per cent in the next 12 months, Mr Cheng was less bullish, tipping a gain of only 10 per cent.

New World declared a final dividend of 25 HK cents per share, against 20 HK cents per share last year.

Underlying profit at New World China, its mainland property arm, rose 185 per cent to HK$1.11 billion from HK$391 million.

Its net profit for the year to June rose 61 per cent to HK$1.19 billion, while turnover jumped 46.29 per cent to HK$2.47 billion.
