Final round, arriving now at Terminal 3E and heading to Terminal 3C through the commuter train. Finally, some pictures of the check-in area.

A380 from Emirates.

I stood clear.

Some panoramic pictures, I think these capture better the airport's magnanimity.

Very nice pics. Too bad the airport doesn't have more natural lighting in the middle of the concourses.

United marks decade of Beijing service
11 June 2015
China Daily Excerpt

10 years from New York area, as direct flights have grown to become a 'vital link'

United Airlines has played a key role in the growing link between the United States and China, according to Nicholas Platt, a former US diplomat in China.

"I was there when this all began," said Platt, who accompanied President Richard Nixon on his historic trip to China in 1972. "And now, it's the biggest bilateral relationship in the world."

Dave Hilfman, United senior vice-president of worldwide sales, said the Chicago-based carrier's service to China has grown significantly since the airline entered the Asia-Pacific market nearly 30 years ago.

"China is huge for us, and so is all of the Asia-Pacific region, frankly," Hilfman said Wednesday at a dinner reception at the Asia Society in New York.

Hilfman and Platt were joined by executives from the Asia Society, representatives from the Chinese Consulate General in New York, and United officials.

The celebration marked the 10th anniversary of United's daily direct flights from New York/Newark to Beijing.

Josette Sheeran, president and CEO of the Asia Society, said United has provided "vital links" in the US-China relationship.

United began nonstop service to China in 1986. Today the company serves Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Chengdu with nonstop flights from major US cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington.

In June 2014, United announced its newest China route: San Francisco to Chengdu, making it the first carrier to offer nonstop air travel from the US to the Sichuan province city.

I was expecting someone would post pics of the ongoing works at the Daxing new airport's site (since there's no separate thread). Strange no one did yet.

Well on Wikipedia it says works started in december last year. Not that Wikipedia is always a reliable source, far from it.

Ground breaking happened on Dec 29th of last year, so construction is definitely ongoing, but I wouldn't expect to see much at this point as much of the work right now is getting the ground ready.

Here's a picture of the construction site. On Google Earth you can see Panoramio photos of people who were working on / visiting the ground-breaking and preliminary work.

Coordinates: 39°31'00.0''N 116°23'00.0''E

Here you can see what looks like a new highway in its very earliest stages.

Is PEK the largest airport in the world by combined roof area? I feel PEK is larger than DXB in that regard, because DXB is like a 7 story building, with much of its floor space under the same roof.

China Southern now has been named as the main airline operator out of the new Beijing airport when it opens. The current Beijing airport is going to open a fourth runway in early 2018 with completion at the end of 2017 if everything stays on track.
