With the new airport in Daxing, are there any plans to decommission the older terminals at Capital?

Beijing needs two or more airports. It's been overdue.

Numbers for Mexico City's new airport vary and the scope of the project seems to have changed over the years, but a press release by Acciona Infrastructure (http://www.acciona.com/news/acciona-...ional-airport/), part of the winning consortium that will build the terminal, indicates the terminal has a floor area of 743,000 sq m and a capacity of 68M passengers per year.

Keep in mind that these figures are for the initial configuration of the airport currently under construction. Both plan further expansions in the future, but there are no finalized plans or data yet.

To put things in perspective, T3 of Beijing Capital is 986,000 sq m, the terminal for the new Istanbul airport is 1,300,000 sq m, and T3 of DXB is still a whopping 1,713,000 sq m.

Eeh DXB Terminal 3 is a bit of a cheat. It's like the 300000 sqm * 6 floors.

PEK is also seven floors. The entire DXB departures/arrivals area is underground though, so only the concourses are visible from outside.

They are actually in the same class.

Mexico city's T1 is going to have 95 gates while Beijing's T1 will have 82 gates.

Along their longest axis Beijing's T1 will be 1.2 km long while Mexico's T1 will be 1.5 km long.

Floor area will be 700k sqm for Beijing's T1 and 743k sqm for Mexico's T1.

When fully build Beijing-Daixing will have 7 runways (each ~3.8 km long), 2 terminals and 1 mid-field concourse while Mexico-Intl will have 6 runways (each ~5 km long), 2 terminals and 2 smaller mid-field concourses.

Final passenger capacity for Beijing-Daxing will be 100 M/year while for Mexico-Intl will be 120 M/year.

This diagram compares both airports using roughly the same scale:

The big difference is that Beijing is going to have 2 mega airports while Mexico city only 1.

Great post @JMR75

Looking at the render I would say that the GFA will come in around 1.5 Million square meters for Beijing Daxing? Including both terminals and the mid field concourse.

In that location, Daxing is likely to be extended endlessly as the demand meets the design capacicy. On the other hand, Pudong has already been announced to be facing a peerless expansion scheme to handle 160 million pax, which will dwarf any of the airports you are talking about.

Beijing is at any case to remain as the world's only city with 2 airports with a >100 million pax capacity, a title likely to be unrivalled for a very long time.

Can they do parallel landings along W1 and W2 runways? The 2 seem quite close.

Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to build world-class airport cluster
http://www.china.org.cn/china/2017-0...t_40469913.htm

Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang will join hands to build a world-class airport cluster. There will be about 260 airports across China in 2020 when the new airports in Beijing and Chengdu and other major projects are constructed and put into operation.

China had a total of 207 civil airports by the end of 2015. Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou airports so far have achieved a more significant position as international hubs, with Beijing Capital International Airport having the second largest annual passenger throughput worldwide and Shanghai Pudong International Airport having the third largest cargo throughput.

In 2025, three world-class airport clusters, 10 international airport hubs and 29 regional hubs will have been completed.

At the same time, China will improve six airport clusters scattered across China, among which the north China airport cluster consists of airports in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. In the future, the region will boast 48 airports totally with 16 new ones scheduled.
