What are you talking about? The Shenzhen airport terminal looks nothing like the Beijing one. Is there a new one being built I am not aware of? The only airport Beijing is similar to is HKIA since its from the same designer.

It looks more like 2 terminals rather than one. The fact they consider it as a single one seems to be mainly a matter of denomination.

Technically, the Terminal 2 at Paris CDG is actually 6 terminals...

What happened to the middle section of the airport?
In the second picture of the airport from http://www.fosterandpartners.com/
it featured a central miniature terminal.

@ herenthere

The entire terminal (all three sections of which) will be completed by 2007.

However, this was not always so because last year Beijing government officials wanted that only the two main Y-shaped sections will be constructed by 2007 while the central piece will be constructed when there would be the need for it in the future.

Fortunately, the Beijing officials retracted that prospect recently this year so that, instead of halting the construction of the central piece of the terminal, it allowed for the construction of the central piece.

Maybe the reason why you don't see it yet in the recent update is that, since it was delayed a bit, it's still on its first stages of construction.

Nevertheless, the central piece will be constructed and will be completed by the year 2007 (the year Beijing-Capital International Airport's Terminal 3 opens).

that is a fantastic diagram of the new terminal. it looks even better than the design in HKIA. this terminal will be a inspiration for future airport designs.

@ zergcerebrates

I think they cancelled the "water-thingy" conctruct with parking spaces beneath it. I guess it's because they figured that it was too expensive, though it would have looked fantantic.

Anyway, don't you think T3's number of parking slots are quite few, considering the size of the terminal? I mean, LAX's (Los Angeles International Airport's) terminal complex has way more available parking spaces despite being smaller than BCIA's (Beijing-Capital International Airport's) Terminal 3.

The exterior design of that airport seems boring, the design looks like it came out from the mind of a 60's architect trying to be modern. It doesn't look like it's pedestrian and parking friendly either. I wonder where the pick up party have to park their cars and wait for the arriving party. Terminal design are suppose to be for fast, comfortable and safe movement of people (arriving, departing, pickup and dropping off parties), I feel sorry for the person arriving from the farthest tip of the terminal, I wonder how long would it take him to pick up his luggages, how far he has to carry his luggages and how far is the immigration from the plane he is getting off. No offense, just my opinion.

@ D'transporter

Well, if you haven't been in Hong Kong's sleek new terminal at Chek Lap Kok island, then you have no friggin' idea how extremely efficient this type of terminal-design is, how much more this ultra-modern terminal patterned after it. This terminal's functional design is way more efficient than most other major airports out there, which is more than I can say for LAX's chaotic terminal layout. However, I share your thoughts on the lack of parking slots.

Here are my commentaries on some of your opinions:
1. The terminal's exterior is not yet complete, how can you tell that it has a "boring" design! Tell me...what sort of exterior design do you consider not "boring", anyway?

2. The passengers arriving at the farthest will be whisked all the way to the immigration, customs, and baggage-claim halls via a people-mover (shuttle train). They don't need to carry their luggage from the plane all the way to the airport arrival hall! Their luggage will be waiting for them at their assigned baggage carousels at the arrival hall.

My first impression is based on what i see on the exterior pics only I have no idea what's unerneath the roof and how efficient the terminal is going to be once operational. That's left for me later on to experience it. My opinion here is not biased nor based on comparison with other airports.

It was the first time I saw this thread yesterday and I just freely posted what I felt. When I first saw the exterior, the first thing that got into my mind was the HONDA logo painted red. I thought it looked like Honda's newest manufacturing/assembly plant. The red roof looked flat and I just thought form and texture was not present looking at it from a distant.

Even if the baggage carousel is located at an arrival hall closer to the immigration area, the fact is some people have the tendency to bring with them a lot of heavy hand carry's and even though you have people movers that distance can be tough for some specially older people. Some people avoid those people movers because it's most of the time fully loaded specially when everyone is rushing to be ahead of each other.
