What a great airport.

I really hope that Beijing manages to clean up its air in time for the Olympic games. Hopefully they'll keep it clean long after the games as well.

Beijing's Gleaming New Terminal

Man, thing terminal's gonna whoop ass.

If only it could have been even bigger. This is suppose to have 66 aero-bridges, right? What if it were designed to be longer like twice the length of the runway and there'd be like three new runways instead of just one.

I bet not even Dubai can match that.

Well this airport will have a total of 3 runways. Beijing authorities already said they will built an entire new airport for Beijing in the outskirts after 2010. So this terminal size is large enough. They said by 2010 the site would be chosen for constructing the new airport, hopefully by then that will be mega.

I don't believe Beijing will have enough runway capacity to support the size of this airport.

@ picassoborceli

Currently it handles nearly 50 million passengers annually with its over-used terminals (two terminals). When this new terminal would be up and running the entire airport is projected to have a capacity of 80 million passengers by official estimates.

But I doubt that figure given that this terminal is so huge! I believe it by itself could handle 60 million passengers annually. That said, it isn't hard to imagine this entire complex to be handling 100 million pax in a decades time.

I reminds me of the old style Olympic tourches, they should light up the top with a big flame during the Beijing olympics

i doubt that figure also. Terminal 3 alone can easily handle close to 80 million by itself. If you look at Hong Kong airport, the current terminal is like 60% of this Terminal 3, and HKIA already has a passenger throughput of 46 million passengers.

It is now late 2007, so an official completion date for Capital Airport Terminal 3 should be announced soon.

It's supposed to open in Feb 2008 (around Chinese New Year), let's see. The current terminals are already over-crowded.
