WOW. Look at the size of this beauty, I can't wait to see the finish product imagine cleaning all the granite floors and glass. BTW does anybody know why that one particular runway in the middle is black pavement while the others are just regular concrete?

I think the roof resembles a dragon scale? Is that what Norman Foster intended?

Amazing terminal...does anyone else thinks the night-time lighting & shapes strongly resemble the Temple of Nod from the Command & Conquer video game series??

I just learned that the 2nd Airport Expressway leads to eastern Beijing between the 5th and 6th Ring Roads. It would stretch 23 kilometres.

Beijing Capitol Airport planning

from skyscrapers.cn

From the map you can see 5 runways, the 2nd expressway, airport South line and north line expressways.

Does this mean that Beijing Capital Airport's expansion will stop at only Terminal 3? Hope not.

They can always take down the old T1 and T2 to build a bigger one over there.

In my opinion, definitely would be a good move, since the diagram looks complicated as it already is- having two mega bldgs would simplify it. However, then T3 would probably be over-capacity unless the planned other airport is built.

I think this is it for thie airport for the near future. Beijing spent alot of money for the Olympics and the city will be striaght into a finicial recooping period afterwards.

If extra capacity is needed, they'll most likely expend into new land, instead of rebuilding existing facilities. Just because rebuilding current facilities wouldn't be that effective in term of expansions anymore. there's only so much land avaliable.

so upon completion it is going to have 5 runways?

I like the idea of building another airport in BJ, most major cities in the world have at least two airports.
