I think its a bad option. We cannot take down T2 since it was built in 1998.

we should have more fantasy

Definitely the design of Norman Forster is superb...but when we look at the interior furnishing ( either T3 or Station for Airport Express) is always always always like anyother chinese airports: grey marble surface, structure of chiché, always blue stereotype tag etc etc...Don't excuse that these are " chinese characteristic " cause we all know it is NOT..so ,why don't they use more comination of color, more irregular shape, MUCH MORE elegant, modern design with GOOD TASTE??? There are many good example ( interior design ) ; Airport of Paris ( T2 and T3--Very chic), T3 of Madrid (very colorful even a little bit retro), Airport of Porto etc etc...it would be really a PITY. such beautiful outside but banal inside :O(

Well its still too early to tell how Beijing airport really looks until completion. As for grey marble floors, arent most modern airports around the world using similar types of marble for flooring?

exactly, I'm so regretted to learn a masterpiece is being turned into a commonplace

i dont think they can use carpet and anything that's a shiny color coz it will be dirties as soon as it opens to public.

there must be some reason behind it.

unfortunately no, the source for the T3 pictures was mainly attended by Beijing metro fans.

well, both the exterior and the interior were based on Norman Forster's design. even the blue stereotype signs are almost exactly like those found in HKIA. I don't think Beijing airport could make much changes to that design except for chair colours and plants in the garden maybe?

Actually I think most Asian airports (like Seoul and HK) tend to adopt such a stereotype (blue signs with white letters, marble floor, overall silvery/glassy appearance) when comes to interior design. It gives a more orderly, quiet, spacious and organized feel, something may be liked by many Asian people.

Anyway many parts of the airport are yet to be completely decorated. We really have to wait until its opening to see how the final plan looks like. Personally I think the marble floor+indoor gardens+red/orange roof can become a fantastic combination.

another topic. read from somewhere that the 2nd airport in Beijing (start construction in 2010?) will mainly be used for domestic flights only. that means the scale will be much smaller compared to that of T3?

They could build the airport in Langfang, which is sandwiched between BJ and TJ municipal in a little peice of isolated Hebei province, and is an hour drive to BJ to the north and TJ to the south. With the high speed rail between TJ and BJ completed transport will be easy.
