The only thing that can justify a 2nd airport after the wonderful new terminal is air traffic problem that can be faced after 2015. However, somebody has to prove this...

The Beijing airport 2 would be located in Daixan. I don't know where Daixan is.

In this picture, the image of the airport is the old design (notice the transport hub, it's entirely different)

Didn't anyione notice? Or didn't they care...? Weird...

they could use the abondoned Design for Shanghai Pudong Terminal 3 ( or 2 or however it was caled) from Richard Rogers.

The now openend new Airport has a capacity ot 80-100 mio pax, what would be the absolut maximum. When you consider the size of the Bejing metropolitan area and the economic growth it makes perfet sense to build a second one.

True. It is only a matter of time when Beijing and Shanghai will compete with London, New York and Tokyo for the title of most passengers in a metropolitan area.

airports from most other Chinese cities look so similar.
That´s what I´ve been thinking as well...

Though I´m really impressed by the sheer size of the terminal (especially the roof), I´m rather disappointed by the sterile, uncreative, industrial style interior and the choice of materials and colours. By comparison, the recognition values of KLIA, Madrid T4 or Suvarnabhumi seem to be much higher.
Altogether this doesn´t looke like a place where one would want to spend more time than necessary...

Beijing's Captial International (PEK) doesn't have space to build any more runways. I think they can fit in 1 more max, and after that they'll have to find other places.

Also, land around the current airport is probably much more expensive than it is in Daixian. And where the freak is Daixian anyways, is it still a county under Beijing or was it promoted to a district?

instead of just painting the asphalt with lines they should make those(triangular markings) into curbs and plant bushes or grass on it. It feels empty and incomplete.
anyone who's ever worked ramp in an airport will tell you that curbs are evil. Lines can be driven on, crubs can't. When you're on your run hauling 8 cans across the tarmac, the last thing you want is one of your fish tailing dollies to run onto a curb. Cuz you know the next thing that ur cans are gonna hit is gonna be a fuel truck. Yes, there's always a fuel truck around when you don't need it.

Not that i've hit a fuel truck before...

Beijing Airport 2 is RUMORED to be located in Daxing District / 大兴区, south of Beijing city.

what are the main wind directions in Bejing?

The location you have shown combined with the north-south direction of the exisitn airport would lead to the necessety to fly directly over bejing city on final approach---With low altitude.

I am pretty sure this will not happen.

I can see how it can be worked out. North-South is good in terms of air traffic. There is a military air base in the mid west, and Tianjin is in the eastish.

Good enough, I like the planning. I'm pretty sure this will happen. Actually i don't see any other way that they can do this.

and don't let the map fool you, the outter edge of Daxing is over 50 kms from Beijing's city center.

I thought that before T3 went in, there was definitely some "stuff" [like people and the things associated with them] on that land where the new terminal and runway sit. Not too many probably.

If Beijing really wanted the land for an airport they could probably just call dibs. Daixian looks to be a good place for a new facility, south and just slightly west of center. Anticipating growth out to 2015 is what I am most skeptical of...

Love your banner quote btw
