I remember reading from somewhere that this airport was designed to resemble a Chinese dragon. I just don't see the resemblance.

http://www.beijingupdates.com/forum/...7101232737.jpg

you can already see the taxiways for the additional runway.
So what will happen with the old Terminal 1 and 2?

That's why you have the people mover will in this case will be underground. Also you have the leveled escalator. If all else fails, you have those mini taxis but you have to pay

I prefer single terminals rather than a multi-terminal concept. Much easier to transit within the same building than to head to another one.

@ hkskyline

Yeah...me, too. I mean, look at the mess that is London-Heathrow. Although, there is one exception: Singapore-Changi.

I can't believe I actually agree with you on this. I had such high hopes for this airports interior but its somewhat dissappointing. I love the exterior, but they really need help with the interior. Its just modern and big but it lacks the elegance and cohesiveness in color matching, signage, colors, etc. Whats with the potted plants! Theres simply too many and its so chaotic looks like wild weeds growing outta control in the terminal. The establishment signs all need to change its so 70ish. That Air China lounge is simply ugly and normal. Look at other airline lounges around the world their entrance is very inviting and elegant and classy. Thats just cheap. The light blue glass or the plastic they use to cover the entire airport walls also doesnt match the roof or any of its surroundings inside. The seat colors are also questionable.

Colours are ok; they're very safe and conservative. This is a good thing. Airports aren’t designer fashion outlets. You don't redecorate airports every other year. So you got to be damn sure that your design won't go out of date.

I think PEK is dead on with this one, better be safe now than sorry later. Use all the "upbeat" colours you want, but you can be sure that it will look out of date in 15 years. Think the burtalistic (i know burtalistic isn't a word but I can't think of another adj form for burtalism) concert blocks that line North American Cities, those too looked "hip" at one time.

As with the signage, they're trying to be consistent across China. Airports, train stations and subways using the same system are one of the best things you will ever find in the world if you're a traveler. The blue background is chosen scientifically, same reason why all the local road signs are blue.

all in all I like it. And yes, that fountain coupled with the marble flooring can become very problematic

So all the sophisticated cabin designing of modern aircraft manufacturers, the mood lighting etc., is for the birds when you get out of a plane after a 12h flight and see this...

You mean, because it IS already out of date?

That indoor fountain, it is super cool, who care people slip and kill.

The design and decor is GOOD, it don't have "I build at 2008" look, very clean design, right color at right place and it has a very comfortable feel.
