did i miss something? I thought US style means not very big terminal and very old building/design

It's kindna hard to figure out the real colours for now, as to get to the final look, it will have gone through several re-painted steps.

Yeah there's a runway in the middle. I don't think they're linking it with an APM, perhaps you'll have to take a bus between them.

If I were Beijing I'd tear down all the current infrastructure and build another mega terminal like T3. It'd be easier than building a second int'l airport as proposed.

An Underground Walkway (and a people mover perhaps?) will connect the three buildings. See the following picture:

JFK and Chicago O'hare comes to mind. Pretty crappy looking airports...well at least the baggage claim and ticket counter area. I was suprised how ugly and old New York JFK looked when I flew there last year.

Hopefully the government will do something to make these airports look better. The airports in Austin and Detroit (Northwest terminal) look nice because they're new.

This whole picture is T3, he was referring connecting this new terminal to terminal two(current international terminal), which is not shown here.

From the looks of it, this terminal seems taller than HKIA overall.

Does anybody have a clue what they're going to put on the roof, glass? I don't know how to say this but have you guys noticed that most airport roofs are covered on the outside while in inside part of the roof is where the metal stuffs are and its usually not that much, but the Beijing one they seem to have the entire roof made from these steel beams.

I was referring to Terminal 1 and 2. T3 is nothing like the US style airport except for maybe the new NW terminal in Detroit.

Yep. The McNamara Terminal in Detroit and Denver Int'l are as good as it gets here.

And Detroit's building a second terminal to replace the rest of the old stuff, it will be done in two years! Then Detroit overall and Denver will be the best in the country.

Bingo! Here's your answer at last.

Beijing To Start Work On Airport-Downtown Metro Line

Asia In Focus - 9/1/06

Construction of a metro line connecting Beijing's airport and downtown will start this month and be completed in June 2008, in time for the Olympics. The 27.3 kilometre line runs from Dongzhimen, a pivotal point on the east wing of the Second Ring Road, to the No. 2 and No. 3 terminal buildings at Beijing Capital International Airport, said Liu Jian, an official with Beijing Municipal Commission of Reform and Development.

The new line will allow trains to travel at a maximum speed of 100 kilometres per hour and a trip to the airport will take only 16 minutes, compared with at least 30 minutes by taxi on an expressway.

The project is designed to operate at least 15 hours a day, carrying more than 4,500 passengers per hour at the peak hours, said Liu, who is in charge of infrastructure construction.
