I find the following figure from HKIA's Website

On departures boarding level Level 6, space has more than doubled from 3,500 square metres to 8,300 square metres. On departures Level 7, retail space increased from 4800 square metres to 6,800 square metres.

Hong Kong SkyMart Floor area: 39,000 square meters

Number of outlets: 160 shops and 40 restaurants

after measuring the dimension of the extension from googleearth software, the extension total at around 12000 sq m.

that's 570000 sq m + 12000 sq m. Larger than the Bangkok terminal. This figure doesn't include the terminal 2 expansion currently uc at HKIA.

When is it scheduled to be open? I am planning to stop over at Beijing when I return home next year. Hope I can use it.

I thought the new terminal 1 in Toronto Pearson suppose to be a mega terminal, but after comparing it with Beijing's T3, nah.....

According to this rendering, I don't think it's the one being built. In this thread, there are many renderings from many companies but finally they didn't get to win the bid.

Is the terminal being built because of the 2008 Olympics?
Looks very impressive.

To think Beijing is getting this, designed by Sir Norman Foster, and Heathrow get's a generic rectangular box...
