This is the existing Beijing airport, not the proposed Daxing airport. The renderings of the Daxing airport that I have seen show the airport terminal as mostly right angle buildings, not curving like in this picture.

Over 100 flights canceled as snow sweeps Beijing

BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 flights were canceled on Sunday by Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA), the world's second-busiest airport by passenger volume, as snow hit China's capital.

Altogether, 115 flights scheduled to depart from or arrive at the airport on Sunday were canceled as of 7 p.m., including 14 international flights, according to flight status information on BCIA's website.

Some of the cancellations were due to foul weather in other cities, as many parts of China were influenced by a new cold snap.

The airport had mobilized more than 800 workers and 230 automobiles to remove ice and snow from planes, runways and parking aprons as of 3 p.m. on Sunday, a BCIA official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

More than 1,500 planes would have flown around 114,000 passengers from the airport on Sunday as planned originally, the official said.

Light to moderate snow and sleet will fall on northeast and north China from Sunday to Tuesday while heavy rain will sweep central and east China, the China Meteorological Administration has forecasted.

BCIA saw passenger volumes grow 4.2 percent year on year in 2012 to reach 81.8 million people, a number second only to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States.

China Southern Leads Airlines Lower as Airports Raise Fee
Bloomberg
Feb 5, 2013 5:36 PM GMT+0800

China Southern Airlines Co. (1055), the nation’s biggest carrier by passengers, fell the most in almost eight months in Hong Kong trading, leading declines among Chinese airlines, after local airports announced fee increases.

China Southern, based in Guangzhou, dropped 4.3 percent to HK$4.48 at the close in Hong Kong, the biggest fall since June 8. The city’s benchmark Hang Seng Index fell 2.3 percent.

Beijing Capital International Airport Co. (694), the world’s second busiest airport by passengers, said regulators will allow it to charge domestic carriers’ international flights the same fees as foreign carriers effective April 1. The increased charge, which also applies to domestic flights that connect to international flights, will help boost revenue, the airport said in a statement yesterday.

Chinese carriers pay about 40 percent less than their foreign rivals for international flights to China’s airports, Barclays Plc analysts led by Patrick Xu wrote in a note to clients yesterday. Airports in Shanghai, Guangzhou and the Hainan province announced fee increases after receiving the notice.

Swiss Ponders Geneva-Beijing Route as Rolex Lures China Tourists
Bloomberg
Feb 7, 2013 6:40 PM GMT+0800

Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. is exploring services on the Geneva-Beijing route as the entry of Air China Ltd. opens up potential for a code-share partnership.

Demand is being driven by a surge in the number of Chinese citizens vacationing in Europe, Chief Executive Officer Harry Hohmeister said in an interview. Geneva offers visitors a combination of Alpine scenery and luxury shopping, with the city home to watchmakers including Rolex Group and Patek Philippe SA.

“The Chinese market is growing fast, faster than any other country,” Hohmeister said in Geneva. “The Chinese also spend a lot as tourists.”

Construction to start on airport terminal
Updated: 2013-01-31 21:04
China Daily

Construction on a terminal of the new airport in Beijing will start in the last quarter of this year, Beijing Daily reported on Jan 31.

The airport, expected to be put into operation in 2018, will eventually become an international air transport hub and a gate for Asia with a capacity to handle 100 million passenger trips a year, according to Beijing's development and reform commission.

Four runways and a terminal will be built in the first phase of the construction, and construction of the terminal will start in the fourth quarter of the year, the report said.

The airport, located in the southern Daxing district and Hebei province, will have seven runways, including one for military use, and will be able to handle 70 million passengers annually by 2025, according to CAAC News, a newspaper affiliated to the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

The airport is expected to ease the burden on the Beijing Capital International Airport, the only international airport in Beijing and the world's second busiest, which handled 81.8 million passengers last year.

They must have a lot of executives to travel for business

BTW SANY's airbus livery is better than those from many airline companies.
