Is the busway system you mention West X the Streetcar? I have seen that referred to on another website. I personally think this is an excellent idea (and as you say much cheaper than a tram system), especially if it's a ticket only system so that you don't get delays queuing to get on a bus as people pay the driver!

yeah thats the one.
i suppose you could call it a sexy bus, it certainly looks a bit better that your average bus. I think we have to be realistic in swansea, a tram system is not feasible but this idea, modest though it may be, could have a major impact in a relatively short space of time at an affordable cost. On another note, i've been reliably informed that a marketing/info hoarding has been erected at the ferrara quay tower site. Theres heck of a lot of activity on site sorting out the services into and around the site, so fingers crossed we may see some real action soon! |

That's good, hopefully there'll be a tower under construction there when I get back to to Wales

Here's a link to the Bellway website which has info, renders and a sales brochure for their new flats at SA1, Swansea which they've dubbed "Altamar":
http://www.bellway.co.uk/wales/Bayside/home.htm ![]() The sales brochure has a couple of new higher quality renders and info on specifications and stuff: http://www.bellway.co.uk/wales/Altam...es/Altamar.jpg

Altamar u/c, nearly finished now and the crane has gone.
Photo gives an idea of the amount of land available over the next few years at SA1.

I think it's either a hotel or appartments, not sure. I don't know it's name or height though, it might be just about tall enough to be included in the database on skyscrapernews. If anyone can post some info about it (name, no of floors, height if known, use) then I can add it to the database, I think I might even have a picture of it knocking about somewhere.

I haven't seen that render before but I think it's the old design. I think this is the new design:

I'm not sure which design has been finalised. The swansea council website has this as the newest rendering:

Also, forgot to mention, princess way has a development which "will consist of a predominantly 7 storey (part 8/9 storey) building incorporating 68 residential units, 70 bedroom hotel (occupied by Travelodge) with a ground floor hotel reception/bar/restaurant with a separate ground floor café and a 51 space undercroft car park."

Oh right, cool. I hope the final design for the ferrara quay tower is the one you just posted lister, it looks much better than the one I had assumed was the more recent one.

Andrew, the rendering you have there is for a different proposal located within the SA1 area for a mixed residential / leisure scheme. its gone pretty quiet over the last few months i would expect something to emerge during 2006. The Princess Way scheme is underway although the Palm trees in the picture have been removed as part of the ongoing new paving works. |

When is the busway going to start? I've just been looking into the types of buses that will be used and it looks pretty impressive.

What types of busses are going to be used? Have you got any pics of them or of similar systems to the one planned for Swansea?

Here is a link that has a pic and some info on the proposed bus scheme dubbed the "swansea metro" Andrew.

I see the St Thomas Riverside scheme has been rejected by the Council. Local NIMBYs cited potential traffic problems at the Tawe Bridges. I do have some sympathy with following recent experience of the queues on Pentreguinea Road!
