Drove the H-3, amazing road. The road alignment is pretty high up in the hills already so there are great views.

I've been vaguely wondering if you can get across Arizona without buying gas. With my car, I think it'd be pushing it. Pack a picnic basket and a cooler, too.

Not that I'm going to be in the Southwest tomorrow or next week....

Buy a diesel car. You can drive 700 miles on a tank of diesel.

Interstate 39/90 concurrency, about three miles south of the Badger interchange with I-94 and two miles north of the interchange with U.S. Highway 12/18. Pictures taken earlier today.

The new guidelines requires all medians less than 75 feet wide had to have a barrier (steel or concrete).

Mind you, this only applies to freeways running in urban areas. Not sure what the guidelines are for rural freeways. If I find out, I will post it.
FYI, there is (was) a stretch of I-5 just north of the town of Yreka in far Northern CA where there are no dividers, no medians, just a double yellow line between NB/SB traffic. This may have been fixed in recent years, but I have driven that stretch many times and always wondered how it maintained Interstate standards with such little seperation. Likewise, the area north of Lake Shasta/Redding was up until recently not much better than a state highway, although I think there have been major improvements the past decade or so. I-5 in extreme Northern California was one of the last segments to move to 2X2 in the system. Hard to believe, when WA and OR had completed their sections years, if not decades earlier.

And yet that has no bearing whatsoever on the fact that that is an impressive interchange.

Not in America the cheapest diesel car you can get besides the old Benz ones are poor quality VW's made in Mexico that whatever you save on gas you'll spend fixing them. Then you have the very expensive Audi and Mercedes diesel and then the pick up trucks with diesel, its very limited here.

Those aren't ETC signs, those are Active Traffic Management signs.

Some of the ATM signs are up, and some aren't. So that's why a few gantries look like they're for ETC.
