About the Daniel Boone Bridge west of St. Louis, MO, I suppose they must have decided that the new bridge will be a girder bridge for cost reasons, meaning it will go from twin continuous truss bridges to one continuous truss bridge and one girder bridge.

I think you might have put that in the wrong thread.

I love this section of rural Interstate 10 between Houston and San Antonio because it's in it's original freeway configuration. It feels like I'm more "one with the land" than separated from it.

Precisely.
That's why I like rural interstates. With fewer barriers, fencing and other clutter as well as with the wide median it somehow feels more pleasant to drive than even the best engineered motorways in Europe.
I know it is mostly due to population density but I still prefer it that way.

Great video. In my opinion rural Interstates should have a speed limit of 80-85mph or No Speed Limit(Trucks 80/85 like on IH 10/20/SH 130 in Texas) at all for cars/light trucks. I'm a fast driver hence my statement about higher speeds. Glad to see Idaho and Wyoming is getting in on the 80 mph speed limits.

A) This consumes a LOT more fuel.

B) Reaction times drop. Quickly. Accident rates go up as you go above 55.

So Europe with its prevalent 80 mph speed limits should have much unsafer freeways than in the United States, but the opposite seems to be true.

if the road can safely handle more than 65mph, it should be designated as such. It really depends on the the build quality of the road. going below the design speed of a road doesn't really make you any safer, especially if you are going a significantly different speed than the speed of traffic.

The case in Ontario is that interregional roads often have average speeds of 115km/h or so, but are signed 100km/h. If you were to drive on that road and obey the speed limit you would be putting yourself in more danger than if you drove 15 over.
