Sabre to open its head office in Bahrain

Sabre Travel Network, operator of the global distribution system (GDS) is set to open its Middle East head office in Bahrain. The Bahrain headquarter is scheduled to be in full operation by the end of the year and will provide a training facility, regional customer contact centre equipped with the latest telephony and AV technology.

“We want to ensure that our travel providers and customers receive a high level of support and training that will enable them to evolve their business models, reduce their costs and maximise their sales’’, said Daniel Naoumovitch, Sabre Travel Network Middle East's chief executive.

Sabre is also increasing its sales and customer service workforce throughout the Middle East region, as part of the company's efforts to enhance its local resources and meet the specific demands of the region's travel suppliers and travel agencies.

Sabre Travel Network, a Sabre Holdings company, provides access to the world's leading global distribution system (GDS). The Sabre GDS, the first system to connect the buyers and sellers of travel, today includes more than 400 airlines, approximately 60,000 hotels, 37 car rental companies, nine cruise lines, 35 railroads and 220 tour operators.

Sweet. If anyone doesn't know what sabre is, it's been created by American Airlines and is such a powerful system, it really gave them a big time competitive advantage.

I suppose this is possibly a direct result of the FTA in a way.

Thats nice...

A friend once asked me, why would any company choose to set up its HQ in Bahrain when they've got the option of Dubai..

When i actually thought about it, i couldn't really come up with a satisfactory answer...Can you!?

Probably because of the FTA.

But did the UAE sign the FTA too?

Also, I imagine it would be cheaper to set up in Bahrain compared to Dubai.

For american companies, Bahrain is better due to several reasons. Also remember that most of the companies you see in Dubai initially were or wanted to be in Bahrain but due to the fact that our lovely gov. thinks in a backward old-school way (well did for a while), things really didn't go as planned. The whole government needs restructuring imo, there's progress but after what.

This FTA should be really helpful at the right time inshalla. And the UAE doesn't have an FTA, Oman is the closest of the other gulf countries.

Also, doin business and overall costs are much cheaper in Bahrain.
