Where you go?

..a question foreigners are often asked by Tuk Tuk drivers.

So now, let me pass the question over to the city of angels. In what direction is it heading?

Regarding skyline, culture, politics, rules and regulations etc., are we becoming a:

Singapore
Hong Kong
Tokyo
..or something less desirable than we are today?

Of course Bkk will keep it's own identity and style or emulate a city I didn't mention, no question about it. But given the choice, who will we copy the most from?

Tokyo, we will eventually become more like Tokyo I think, the ocean of low rise blocks with the scattered islands of high rise towers pop up everywhere between them.

If we are lucky enough tobe able to fill up all the spaces between the low-rises with the high towers , we will look more like HK today.

Singapore, we will never become like SG, considering our size (we are almost 3 times bigger in term of population) and the urban planning issues.

I can't predict which way Thailand is heading 10years down the road but it looks like Thailand (or solely Bangkok) is getting more and more Singapore-like lately which I am not too in favor of.

do u guys and gals recalled
- removing of all telephone booths along the walkway?
- the no smoking rule in some (or more) areas?

Trust me, it's a matter of time u will learn what are Singapore's COE and CPF!

I think, Tokyo.

Endless city metropolis area with subsidiaries of many new Business Districs, but the current CBD will still be the true center of the city.

The Urban area will keep growing by sticking to the railway system lines, BTS and Subwaay as such.

Old town area will steadily reimproved, moving polines underground, major urban redevelopment and preservation of some historical landmarks.

Nontheless, I think Bangkok already similar to Tokyo in many ways.

Rajprasong = Ginza
Siam Square = Harajuku
Ladprao = Shibuya
Sathorn = Shiodome
Silom = Roppongi
Sukhumvit = Shinjuku
Siam Station = Shinjuku Station?, or maybe Tokyo Station if so Hua Lam Pong.
Thonglor = Omotesando or most likely Shiyoda
Ladprao = Shinagawa
Makkasan new Downtown = Odaiba (The gateway from Haneda)
Pattaya = Yokohama

Tokyo for me.
I don't think BKK is going to be like HK or even SG.
There's more space in BKK and city planning are different.

Silom = Roppongi/or Marunouchi
Sukhumvit = Shinjuku/or Roppongi
Siam Station = Shinjuku Station?, or maybe Tokyo Station if so Hua Lam Pong.
Thonglor = Omotesando or most likely Shiyoda/or Aoyama, Akasaka
Ladprao = Shinagawa
Makkasan new Downtown = Odaiba (The gateway from Haneda)/ or Shinagawa

Bangsue = Ueno
Rama 3 = Yokohama
Rattanakosin island = The Imperial palace

I personally hate Tokyo and Japan for some reasons.

But Bangkok looks like it's going to be like Tokyo. We are more of nationalism than HK and SG. So we're pretty close to Japan!

So I will have to get over this. I really hate Japan!
Please don't argue with me. It's personal.

never have a chance to visit Japan. So i can't tell if Thailand is heading that way. But currently my the other half is having exchange program in Fukuoka. The 1st message he sent back was 'the air is much fresher'!!!

While Bangkok infrastruture is developing in double quick steps, more effort is needed to improve its air quality. ie if u aspire Thailand/Bangkok to be like Japan/Tokyo.

Just my 2 bahts worth.
