It's impossible to think that people really think that Sagrada Familia (famous for whom visits or cultured people), that obelisk in Indonesia, Macchu Picchu (very famous indeed) and others quoted before are among the 3 most famous.

For me, it's all about the shape, the silhouette and the recognition of the place just seeing few landmark's qualities.

Everybody knows that silhouette.

Any doubt?

IMO Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and The Pyramids are the most famous. And I could even have chosen Christ The Redeemer just for being in my city.

wow , what a bunch of... , everybodys is just putting they're favourite buildings and scrapers as the most famous landmarks , THE MOST famous landmark is one that anyone anywhere recognises no matter how much tv hes been watching, thats why we wont have christ statue from rio , no petronas towers or other scrapers , Empire state building ...maybe altough if you ask someone from the rural side he sure as hell wont recognise it, ask the same person about the eiffel tower and you might have a chance. I would vote for the eiffel tower , but the piramids from egipt are truly the most famous landmark for about 4000 years now
for a more modern landmark i would choose the burj al arab, you would be pretty amazed to see how many people recognise it

I've gone back only a couple of pages here, but did anyone mention the Parthenon and the entire temple complex up there on the hill in Athens? That would certainly rank among one of the world's most famous landmarks for me.

To me the Parthenon and the surrounding complex of temples on top of that hill in Athens certainly is among the most famous landmarks of our world.

Well this thread is another dick measuring contest of ignorant people, so don't expect much sense out of it, everyone is going to post his/hers local church or sth....Parthenon is on top 10 as much as Eiffel tower is. Now go find the other 8....

The Acropolis? Unfortunately, not at all.

The Great Wall of china.. could be. BTW, I think that it's one of the most stupid projects ever.
