Both are iconic to their host cities |

I think in terms of famous buildings they all are pretty recognizable to people like us, but to see which are the most recognizable you would have to ask like, farmers or villagers from around the world, and i'd bet they would all recognize the Statue of Liberty, The Pyramids of Giza ( even though they might not know the "Giza" part), and the Eiffel Tower.

I would say Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Sydney Opera House & Tiananmen Square.
Overall, Sydney Opera House wins because when you see the building you automatically relate it back to the name of its city - Sydney.

And you don't automatically relate the Eiffel tower with Paris and france, and the statue of Liberty with NYC and the US ?

I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the Disneyland or Disneyworld castle yet. I'd be willing to bet that if you pulled a world-wide survey, the most recognizable figure in the world would be mickey mouse.
