Light rail key to ensuring visitors enjoy Las Vegas — and come back

When a big event such as a marquee fight or a major concert happens on the Strip, Las Vegas Boulevard turns into a gridlocked disaster of honking horns, grumbling tourists and the constant tick, tick, tick of taxi meters racking up heavy fares[...]

The solution has always been to expand the Monorail to the Airport. Monorail can go down to ground level taking lanes of Trop Ave and can go on street level until the Airport. With the Monorail connected to the Airport, all major resorts will want to be part of the transport network.

It makes no sense to create a new transport infrastructure.

SO true, and the distance is short. WHY on earth does the monorail not go to the airport? Such a sad city in my opinion.

Why is it taking so much time?
That latest stretch to open was back in 2004.

The taxi drivers successfully lobbied against extending the monorail to the airport. Now, because of Uber, Las Vegas has only about half as many taxi drivers as they had then. Many of the Uber drivers would also be opposed to extending the monorail to the airport, but they seem not be so militantly organized as the taxi drivers.

RTC pushes for light rail system in Maryland Parkway corridor

LAS VEGAS
Lawmakers say they plan to make another hard push to build a light rail system in Las Vegas. The track would potentially start at McCarran International Airport and go up to Maryland Parkway to Carson before it heads west here it heads west and downtown until it gets near Valley Hospital[...]

This makes me upset! Why would light rail get the green light to serve McCarran International Airport and not the monorail. The post above his says that the taxi cab unions successfully lobbied against the monorail being extended to the airport. Why wouldn't Las Vegas want to put thousands of visitors up in the monorail instead of down on the clogged streets!?
