#PROJECT: FERRARI WORLD (Yas Island)

Major new Ferrari themed project in Abu Dhabi

Ferrari and ALDAR Properties have today announced an exclusive agreement to develop an innovative and exciting Ferrari Concept in Abu Dhabi themed around the prestigious and renowned Ferrari brand.

His Highness Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Jean Todt, General Manager Ferrari, Mr Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman ALDAR Properties, His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nayhan, Chairman Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

The development will provide entertainment for the whole family and the initial concept envisages a race track, numerous rides and attractions, an opportunity to allow visitors to learn the story and history of Ferrari, to participate in Ferrari motoring activities, and to experience the Ferrari brand also through virtual simulations. Another important feature of the facility will be an advanced and sophisticated circuit where tests and driving courses will be organised, as well as races. The concept will also include hotels, retail, residential and hospitality elements embracing the design ethics of the Ferrari brand.

Making the announcement, ALDAR's Chairman Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh said:

'Mubadala Development company's purchase of Ferrari shares earlier this year allowed ALDAR an opportunity to forge a relationship with one of the world's leading brands. We are delighted that this opportunity has swiftly progressed into an exclusive agreement, which has arisen from the natural synergy of ideologies and objectives between Ferrari and ALDAR. This relationship will allow ALDAR to create an exciting destination within Abu Dhabi which offers something for the entire family and underlines the already strong relationship between Ferrari and the UAE.'

Mr Al Sayegh concluded: 'To this end, we have immediately commenced our design programme, so that we can launch the development to the world very early next year. The development will then be constructed on a fast track programme, targeting a public opening in 2008.'

Commenting on the announcement, Ferrari's General Manager Jean Todt said: 'The agreement with Abu Dhabi offers Ferrari many opportunities. The site will be an important attraction for fans and car lovers worldwide, whilst the structures for sporting and driving activities will have a special appeal for all Ferrari enthusiasts and drivers'.

Guilio Zambeletti, Brand Development and Partners Director of Ferrari added: 'Ferrari products and stores are having a great success worldwide; hence this affirmation of the enormous potential that our brand can inspire. Ferrari and ALDAR are working together with a team of professionals from all over the world, on a project that will be a dream come true.'

'We are extremely excited and honoured to be working with Ferrari on what will be a world class development,' added Christopher Sims, ALDAR's CEO.

'We have engaged the world's leading designers and creative talents to ensure that this great project will be worthy of the Ferrari and ALDAR brands. When completed it will significantly add to Abu Dhabi's tourism offering, as well as providing a strong and profitable income base for ALDAR's balanced and diversified real estate portfolio.'

Why can't Dubai and Abu Dhabi collaborate instead of compete. I know Abu Dhabi is tryin as hard as possible to compete with Dubai. Instead of repeating a project, do somethin new.

Ferrari concept theme park on track

Shaikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economy and Planning, and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, President and CEO of Ferrari, at the Abu Dhabi-Italy Investment Forum.

Abu Dhabi: The world's first theme park built around the Ferrari concept is on track for opening in 2008 in Abu Dhabi but Ferrari will not be an investor, the renowned Italian brand's chief said yesterday.

Land has been identified near the Al Raha Beach to build the park over several acres.

"Everything is going according to plans and the theme park will have its inauguration in 2008 and it will be completely open in 2009," Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, President and Chief Executive of Ferrari, told Gulf News.

"Ferrari gives the licence and that's it, we will not be an investor in the park," he said on the sidelines of the Italy-Abu Dhabi Investment Forum.

Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development Company picked five per cent equity in Ferrari last year. "There are no plans for Mubadala to increase its equity in Ferrari in the short-term at least," he said.

The park, complete with a full-sized race track, will provide entertainment for the whole family with numerous rides and attractions.

Visitors will be able to learn the story and history of Ferrari, participate in Ferrari motoring activities and to experience the Ferrari brand also through virtual simulations.

The state-of-the-art track will be used to stage tests and driving courses as well as real races. There would also be Ferrari stores, the first such in this region.

The pace of development in the UAE impresses me greatly. The city-scape is in constant evolution and so is the business environment.

The UAE certainly represents a top priority for Italian companies. I am proud of leading such an important entrepreneurial delegation and ours is one of the largest business mission ever organised in the UAE.

We have 150 Italian entre-preneurs today in various sectors on this delegation.

Under the visionary leadership, the UAE is successfully pursuing an ambitious programme of diversification from an oil-based economy to an economy based on services and industry.

Legal reforms

The changes that have taken place in Abu Dhabi over the last 30 years are a clear example of how fast business is done in this country. Italian entrepre-neurs want to be part and parcel of your efforts.

Important results have been achieved by your government to integrate your economy in international trade.

I refer to the full membership of the WTO. Significant economic and legal reforms have already been implemented, the privatisation process and the infrastructure system are being developed at full speed. We are aware that Abu Dhabi and the other emirates are the leaders in this region in terms of economic freedom index.

The UAE represents the most significant market in the Middle East for Italian companies. The growth rate of our exports was more than 17 per cent over the last few years.

New activity: Abu Dhabi and Italy sign two accords

The University of Confindustria, Luiss, Italy yesterday signed an agreement with the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi to develop a Business Management Master's degree course specifically dedicated to managers in the UAE.

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, President of Confindustria (Confederation of Industry, Italy), and Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, signed the agreement.

Italy Confindustria also signed an MoU with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry to provide a stable and effective instrument of cooperation for the new activities that would be developed soon together.

Don't think it'll be near Al Raha though. Somewhere a bit closer to the action maybe?

Can't wait to see wealthy Sheikhs queuing up to buy F355 Spiders alongside candy floss for their kids at the "gift shop".

Ferrari Theme Park

Abu Dhabi, a Persian Gulf emirate with 8 percent of global oil reserves, plans to build the world's first Ferrari theme park to lure tourists and lessen its dependence on energy.

Ferrari World will headline the emirate's $40 billion transformation of Yas Island, a 2,500 hectare plot in the Gulf opposite Iran, into a luxury tourist destination, Aldar Properties PJSC, a developer owned by Abu Dhabi's ruling al-Nahyan family, said in a statement today. The family owns 5 percent of Ferrari SpA, maker of the eponymous Italian sports car.

Abu Dhabi and other sheikhdoms in the United Arab Emirates, which has 8 percent of the world's oil and a population of less than 4 million, are spending their rising wealth on development projects to wean their economies from energy. Dubai, the U.A.E.'s second-largest sheikhdom after Abu Dhabi, plans to spend $33 billion to build the world's largest airport.

``Yas Island will be a global destination that will take Abu Dhabi to the world,'' Aldar Chief Executive Officer Ronald Barrott, said in a telephone interview from Abu Dhabi today.

Ferrari World, to be completed by 2009, will be a ``hi-tech theme park,'' including simulator rides, roller coasters, an interactive museum, a theater with an Italian-themed play and a race track, Barrott said.

Yas Island, which is to be completed in 2014, will include a golf course, hotels and residences, Barrott said.

Abu Dhabi launched its own airline, Etihad Airways, in 2003, and plans to spend $6.8 billion expanding Abu Dhabi International Airport as it looks to emulate neighboring Dubai's success as a tourist destination.

Dubai attracted 1.7 million visitors in the first three months of 2006, versus 1.6 million a year earlier. It is building three man-made islands in the Persian Gulf which are to add 520 kilometers (322) miles of coastline. Other projects include the Burj Dubai, which may be the tallest building in the world upon completion in 2008, and Dubailand, a $20 billion tourism project three times the size of Manhattan.

Some information about the architect of this amazing project in Abu Dhabi (click on the link). The whole "Ferrari Experience" theme park is approx. 200,000 sq. meters of area. Another shopping centre is directly connected to this part and also huge, approx. 300,000 sq. meters of area on 3 floors. Of course the F1 race track which opens 2009 and a water theme park... This is an incredible project especially for Abu Dhabi...

Foundation stone ceremony celebrates construction start for world's first Ferrari Theme Park in Abu Dhabi

A foundation stone ceremony was held today in Abu Dhabi to officially signify the start of construction of one of the most multi-dimensional and highly anticipated themed entertainment attractions in the world, the Ferrari Theme Park.

http://www.ameinfo.com/images/news/6/47676-ferrari.jpg

Officials and special guests in attendance for today's event included Ferrari's President Luca di Montezemolo and Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman, Aldar Properties PJSC, as well as invited guests representing media, government and business organizations from around the world.

During the Foundation Stone Ceremony a special time capsule was buried, containing a Conrod and Piston of the F2007, the F1 World Champion Ferrari car, together with the first artist's impression of the Ferrari Theme Park on YAS Island. The capsule will be then opened again at Ferrari's 100th anniversary, in 2047.

'This is a very special year for Ferrari,' Mr. Montezemolo said. 'Together with the extraordinary commercial success of our GT cars, it brought to Maranello the F1 Constructors World Championship and the F1 Drivers World Championship with Kimi Raikkonen, and I am particularly proud to be present to mark the symbolic start of this great project. Moreover, 2007 is the year of Ferrari's 60th anniversary, and this Ceremony has therefore a further, important meaning.'

Part of a joint project between Italian automotive manufacturer Ferrari and ALDAR Properties, the 250,000sqm park (80,000 of them covered) will be a unique oasis of discovery, hospitality and beauty that captures culture, flavour and the true spirit of Italian country, as well as the legendary automotive history, feeling and heritage of Ferrari cars and racing.

'Today is a celebration of the first step along the way to making the world's first Ferrari theme park a reality, with the laying of the foundation stone' commented Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman, ALDAR Properties.

'An incredible amount of real estate growth is taking place in Abu Dhabi, and it is our responsibility to deliver projects of the highest quality, while protecting the natural, social and cultural assets of the Emirate. I am confident that the blend between the power and beauty of one of the world's leading brands, Ferrari, with ALDAR's expertise in development and regional knowledge, will combine to create a destination that resonates with sports lovers around the world,'

When completed in 2009, the attraction will provide amusement for the whole family, featuring multi-format high tech theatres, a variety of sophisticated driving schools (for both children and adults), Ferrari automotive displays and participatory learning centres as well as food and entertainment.

Among the 24 attractions, the park will offer a mix of high-octane and family rides with roller coasters jetting into the sky and dipping through the covered areas. At the heart of the park will be an advanced and sophisticated circuit offering driving courses, which will be the home of the first Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix in 2009.

After the Foundation Stone event at YAS Island, a brand new Ferrari Store will have its official grand opening in Abu Dhabi's Marina Mall. Ferrari's President Luca di Montezemolo, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman of ALDAR Properties, Abdullah Abdel Rahim Al Fahim, Chairman of Al Fahim Enterprises and Commercial and Brand Director Dany Bahar will take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Ferrari is racing up in the retail market with 40 more outlets worldwide

After writing about a small product like business card holder from the Ferrari (online) store yesterday, I was more then surprised to know that the Italian brand is all set to storm the world with 40 more outlets! The recent opening of a new Ferrari Store at El Prat International airport, Spain, is just the start. Ferrari said it is kicking off an "ambitious development plan" and foresees more than 40 openings of new retail outlets for the Prancing Horse brand in the next five years in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. All this is not only for rolling in more mollah but also to cater to all the Ferrari fans who can indulge in other-then-car stuff. The stores will please everyone from Formula 1 enthusiasts to children who want a Ferrari T-shirt. The brand estimates that it has a retail "turnover of more than 25 million euros ($35.4 million).

Ferrari said it will open a new store in Abu Dhabi in November, followed by a store in Moscow "by the end of the year." Other stores will follow in 2008 in Singapore, Macao and Honolulu. Ferrari stores got their foothold in the marque's home market in such spots as Maranello and Rome.
