[QUOTE=thryve]To me, this is absolutely nasty, childish-looking architecture that is very untimeless and will look outdated in the future with its awkward shape, and red and gold touches... yuck...

^

Your Kidding right? But I guess it takes someone who is childish, awkward and outdated to make such a statement!!!

Crane question

Does anyone know how the plan to get the red crane down And does the black crane has anything to do with it?

^ the black crane was put up a few weeks ago. This is called the recovery crane. In next couple of weeks, the large red crane which has been in construction process for past 5 years will dismantled and lowered down by black crane. Then the black crane will be dismantled and taken down in lift. The recovery crane can be dismantled into small 2m long pieces so it can fit in lift. brilliant.

the last row of gold is going on today
webcam

cheers

The black crane could also be used to support the decks for cleaning the facades, once the building is completed

No. I'ts actually symbolic of blood spilt @ the Eureka Stockade, which is part of Australian history and folklore. So it has deeper significance than just being a bit of bright decoration.

It symbolises a cut in the skin.

Hmmm, I like the idea of giving a building some significance by swinging in a deeper thought, but I'm having doubts about the esthetical value...I didn't even mention it before, although I've allready seen loads of pics of it... Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it.
