finally, saw it with my own eyes

and it was beautiful. fills a glaring gap in the melbourne skyline with more style than anything else there. i'm loving this new breed of tall slender buildings around the world, i have to say; we'll soon have the needle-like skylines promised in all those sci-fi movies...

Not really a "stupid name" @ all. It's actually named after the Eureka Stockade, which is part of Australian history and folklore. So it has deeper significance.

The red stripe on both the eastern and western sides symbolises a cut in the skin, indicating the blood split during The Eureka Stockade which was a miners' revolt in 1854. If interested, you can read a little more on it here: Eureka Stockade

Q1's roof is not taller than Eureka's 297.3m to roof/parapets, but Q1's spire takes it to a much taller height of 323m (to roof it's only 327m)

A few more recent pics by Archibomber...

You do realise that the tower is just about finished externally so you could have just let this thread go on for a few more posts, right?

Thast there is the best looking scraper I have ever seen!! The angles are so sharp, the colours so intense... it is simply perfect. Can't get enough of this tower...

Residents have been moving in for over a year - they're almost at the top by now. Public access to the observation deck on level 88 will open within a few months.

ive been trying to find faults or what could of been better for Eureka. The only little things that sometimes peevs me is maybe the white stripes when viewed side on. very bland flat elevation. also the bright orange elements on podium. maybe a softer tone or grey etc.
the red stripe on gold is a bit much, may take getting used to.looks outa place.

but this tower viewed head on (from south or north) is superior to most skyscrapers. excellent forms and angled structures.
will always be one of the worlds great resi towers.
the crane will come down next week and ob deck opening will happen in july. (apparently!).

cheers
