I know I'm like the only one on SSC who is saying this, and although I am not saying it out of ignorance or being rude, I really don't see why people love this building... it uses interesting colours, but it looks awkward, and childish in my opinion, to the extent of being ugly.

Sorry

We all have a right to an opinion, but it is one building you have to see in the flesh to appreciate, personally when I saw the original renders, I though Hmmmm? but now I have fallen in love with it as the building nears completion, In my opinion I think the building has a lot of class and 'glass' and has been built to exactly how it was rendered withoug cutbacks :-)

What I love about it is what it actually represents, Victoria's/Melbourne's historic gold rush (Gold glass crown), it symbolises our past and yet I think it now stands for what our state and even nation has achieved - Progress, wealth, freedom, democracy and what we have achieved. The building is a symbol of our past and modern achievement. Thats what it means to me anyway in some sort of arty way.

LOL I do the exact same thing, I hardly look at the road ahead, but rather find myself looking straight at the skyline. I have to admit that it is looking fantastic.

I prefer Q1 myself but still think Eureka's a great looking tower. Agree that it doesn't look good in all pics but if you look back through the thread I'm sure you'll find some fantastic ones

Nothing wrong with that, at least you stated why you don't like it, rather than saying it looks crap or something. As for the freeway thing you'll probably find that Eureka will cause many accidents in the coming years, too many people staring at it and not the road.

From a distance it's profile reminds me of Sears Tower in Chicago.

Some may not like the gold at the top but I still think this is a wonderful looking building. It is distinct and it soars up very nice. It will be good to see photos from the observatory when opened.

Yes it sounds like you really understand ugly......... cultural roots in ugliness perhaps?

THe view from a distance changed so much, on the train in the mornings i basically get a clear view from about 3-4km away going in a bar arc towards the city, and you see it from so many diffrent angles, from side on to face on (side being skinny and face beaing fat tower)

Yeah, I agree. It's different from every angle, and that will become more pronounced as the crown is completed. I wasn't sure about the gold either, though... I like the symbolism, but was worried it might look a little tacky. But the gold is quite subtle in most light, and then flashes brilliantly when the sun really hits it in the morning and afternoon.

I live in FWP, and from the roof-garden at night, the PWC sign gives it the most eeire blue glow, almost futuristic looking, really highlighting the white stripes. It looks cool in reality, even if the pictures don't capture it.
