New City of 300,000 ppl for low income folks

Hi, I just read that they are going to build a city on the outskirts of Doha, near the Industrial Area, dedicated to people with a low monthly income who cant afford to pay the very spiraling rents in Doha. The city will house parks, shopping areas, recreation facilities, ect... The first part of the 2 parts will house will house family housing (enough for 200 K people), the second part will be for single workers (enough for 100 K people). Bids are invited, according to the article. Personally I think this is stupid, it will cause the rent in Doha to dramatically decrease once this housing city is to be built... They should build this city in Al Khor or Wakra--where the rents are lower....

Bad idea, it's kind of lie dividing the population is half, you guys go here, the rest go here. Plus, this will have an effect on the Doha.

Qatar needs people in order to realise its development plans. If these people can't afford to live here, the plans won't get implemented. So it can only be a positive even if the greedy landlords in Doha don't get to milk their tenants so much...

Its not just that people are divided, the whole project is titled "Low Income Housing;" however, they should build gradually low income housing, but not segregate people!

Well, its good if your the landlord, bad if you are tenant. However, increasing the rent dramatically--as it is happening currently--will have an adverse effect on the economy. Higher inflation, higher poverty, mass exodus out of country, ect...

I think this a very bad idea, I have to agree with w-w-b that it will eventaully turn into ghettos. This will segregate the community. Isn't there anyway people can oppose against this?

I was about to say the same thing.

Finally, after this project, doha would become a real city since we'd have a ghetto. Only we created the ghetto instead of letting it gradually happen.

Very very bad idea. Obviously this idea hasnt been thought through. Probably some genious, of the many we have in Ashgal woke up one morning and said yeah lets take all the poor folks who cant afford rent in doha and build them this nice make shift little town with a masjeed and a basketball court and dump them all there.

They even picked a perfect name for it... shh..
