It's a strange name for a building which (thankfully) lacks the architectural feature whos name it bears. On Emporis they've spelt it "SP!RE" - is that where thryve got his old user name from

Nice design for an innercity resi. Hope the glass turns out alright. Notice the sign on the hoardings - "see New York from your balcony" - sweet!!

Judging from the updates the glass looks pretty sweet so it should look great when finished, better than the renders.

The glass does look really nice. This will probably be better then the renderings. I love how they start on the glass after only a few floors instead of waiting for the majority of the main structure to be completed.

Well the design has somewhat changed from the originals in the first post. They are going with a coloured glass pattern now.

These are from DrJoe on the local thread.

I've never seen a Toronto building thread that was for a tower under 500 ft. (except for the ROM which I started ) But this is one of my favourites at the moment, due to its unique design, and I would love to see regular updates.

It was named SP!RE because of its close proximity to a very tall church spire.
There is nothing really odd about the name if taken in that context.
I like the new colour additions.. very smart!

great tower.. love it.

if we have a thread for SPIRE why don't we have a combined thread for all the new condominium towers underconstruction for Toronto? Show off the Met, RoCP, Murano, West One etc?
just a suggestion... i would love to have toronto more represented on the Construction forums... since it gives off the feel that toronto has nothing underconstruction... but many "news and developments" hahaha

btw... did i say i love SPIRE? lol

I like the new design too. From the right angle at the right time of day, this building will look pretty kick ass with a bright blue sky reflecting on the glass, interupted by spots of muted yelllow, muted green and deep red panels. This almost looks like a building destined for Barcelona or Rotterdam. It should stand out very well in Toronto.

Ever so glad someone created a thread about SP!RE

I love this tower as my previous username would suggest.. I may switch back soon

Anyways, I think the timelessless of the building will be lost to those colourful panels... but the design is still great!

Ah, of course. You can see the magnificent spire of St James Cathedral in one of the renders - 93m tall!

I was suprised to find that this is almost the tallest building UC in Toronto right now, with RoCP and West One just a little taller. Toronto's boom is all talk and little action so far? (very much like Townsville).

I agree with thryve, not a big fan of combined threads.

Well.. 63 towers under construction...so I wouldn't say that it's all talk. Just not too many significant buildings yet. (read: tall). But some of the more intriguing buildings are actually not highrise buildings at all -- rather lowrise buildings. Some examples U/C include Daniel Libeskind's Royal Ontario Museum Transformation, Frank Gehry's Art Galley of Ontario redesign, Leslie-Dan Pharmacy building by Sir Norman Foster, Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts by Jack Diamond, CCBR and others. These are all gorgeous, high quality buildings. Also Toronto's Pearson Airport is being rebuilt. It is a $2 billion project and construction has been underway for the past year or so. So in reality, Toronto really IS booming.

The real boom with significant towers will occur in the coming years (I predicted 2007 as THE year), but something very special is going to happen in Toronto very soon and all of the Toronto forumers know it. Trump is progressing well and is ready to go up next year. Ritz Carlton (700fter) is well over a quarter sold after less than two months. Daniel Libeskind has a 600+ fter approved with the city, Four Seasons has their flagship hotel basically approved and there are many many others. Anyone who has seen elliot's rendering will know of the scale of the transformation. These are not wussy towers going up. They will make a statement.

Yeah! A Toronto building in the construction forum. This is a quality building as well, and i'm glad to see now that they changed it a bit to add some colour, which really adds character.

In my opinion last design is better. The first one was very dull.
And I like that church! Or is it a Cathedral?
