Spreading the message of universal brotherhood

Vivekananda Express, an ‘expo on wheels' portraying the life of Swami Vivekananda, will chug into Kollam on July 6.

The six air-conditioned coaches will display photographs, write-ups, and souvenirs which deal with various facets of Swami Vivekananda's life.

The train was flagged off by the then Union Minister for Railways Mamata Banerjee from the Howrah station in West Bengal on January 12, to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

A special tribute by the Indian Railways aims at spreading the messages of universal brotherhood and religious harmony, as envisaged by the saint. Swami Vivekananda's childhood, education, and travels are chronicled.

His inclination to Yoga, spirituality, and his associations with various reformation movements are detailed.

The exhibition also traces the story of Ramakrishna Mission. Swami Vivekananda's association with Sri Ramakrishna is also covered extensively.

The train will be berthed at Kollam station on July 6 and 7. The public can visit the train from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entry is free.

Kollam corporation is the smallest one areawise among the 5 city corporations in Kerala with a mere 57 sq. Kms. But still it has 3.62 lakhs of population and ranks 4 which is very dense for a tier 3 city with a population density of more than 6000.

Actually, the urban area is much wider if you look at the Kollam city region. The city should be expanded upto Kundara in the East and Kottiyam to the South and Chavara in the North.

If that happens the area will be more than 120 sq. Kms and the population will be a whopping 6 lakhs. This will allow Kollam to be under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) program which Kochi and Trivandrum now enjoys.

Kollam's commercial potential and importantce is on a high after Kollam ports inaugration and the city development is a key for more business projects in the future and these funds can leverage the infrastrucutural development of Kollam city.

I think the government must do something especially for Kollam and Trichur corporation to make them under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission JNNURM)scheme.

Just had a small round in Kollam City.

VAN HUESEN to come up in main road opposite to Carona.
Near to Guruprasad hotel in main road a textile showroom is coming up, infact a huge one. People i found there doesn't know which one it is.

Hope main road will be back to its past glory.

WEDLAND silks is a not a big show room as they say in there advertisement....much smaller than MK and RK and i felt the latter are better options.

FIZACA wedding centre, almost as big as Wedland is to be inaugrated in KAVANAD.

Thanks for the updates, Aji. I am going for a short stint to Kollam next week. Will try to collect some snaps and news.

It is great that big showrooms are coming up at the city limits such as Kavanad. I think big showrooms should come up at Kottiyam, Kundara, and Chavara as well so that the city will expand in all directions.

Main road lost its past glory when Bishop Jerome Nagar came up in 1990s. The situation worsened when the Hospital Junction - Chinnkkada stretch became the centre of attraction for all big showrooms such as Josco, Alukkas, Prince, KMall etc.

Probably, the new developments and a renaming of the Main Road to Mahatma Gandhi road will regain its past glory.

I drove thru main road today.....

It looks like main road will revive its past glory...

Works going on in AYYAPPAS frontage.

Most buildings in Main road will give way for better one as there is no scope for survival with the current situation.

15 t0 20 years back TVM ite shopped in Kollam for Textiles.

NORTHBROOK VILLAS

This project consists of 28 premium villas with 4 bedrooms covering an area of 2000 square feet in independent plots of 5 cents. These villas have various world class amenities like swimming pool, children’s park, recreational ground, fitness centre /gymnasium, 24 hours security, main ornamental gateway, 7 metres wide main road, aesthetically designed street lights with finished compound wall and gate at affordable price.

Northbrook project is located approximately 2.2 kilometers from Ayathil. Ayathil has the same importance and is a business / educational hub almost similar to Vytilla junction of Ernakulam. Northbrook project has within 2 kilometers of its radius Travancore medical college, Upasana Nursing college, NS Multispecialty hospital, Navdeep School, St. Jude school, SN Public school, TKM engineering College and needless to say that many major ventures including star hotels are to take shape within a few years in this vicinity.

If one consider the commercial aspect of his investment we would recommend it to be the best available today in Kollam. It is connected extremely between 2 National Highways – NH47 & NH 208- through the Kollam bypass connectivity.

A salient aspect worth mentioning is that many famous temples, mosques and churches are also located in the near vicinity which we consider as a great blessing to the people at large.

A very funny incident.

On my way back to Banglore I took a bus from my home and was heading to Anandavalleswaram to catch Shyama. Once the bus reached Kadappakkada, they turned left on the Ashramam road as there was some picketing in Chinnakkada and as the bus reached Bus Stand, there was havoc in the bus.

One lady says: Oh my god. Kollam has developed, but how will i go to Shankers.@#!%$%$@#!$^!

The 4 laning of road looks beautiful(I travelled quite a few times in car thru this way, but in bus it looks too good )
