Quebec City Nightlife - any pics and info plz
I'm going to Quebec City this March break and I was wondering about the nightlife scene in the city. If you have any info on the clubs and bars that would help thanks.

what type of venue / music di you like ?
if you're into dance/house, the major spot is Dagobert on Grande-Allée. less commercial in St-Roch (Lower city), le Boudoir. pubs/micro : my top choice is Pub Ste-Angèle, on Ste-Angèle St. in the walled city. L'Inox in the old port, is very very nice. La Barberie in St-Roch has some of the best beers. anyway, there's a lot of excellent pubs in the Old Town and the Lower city. for alternative mucic, Le Scaner in St-Roch (Lower city) is probably the best place in town. I've heard of L'Arlequin, but I've never been there. http://www.telegraphe.com/quebec/bars/indexen.html |

It really depends on what you're looking for. You should try the Palace on Thursday and Friday ( 10$ open bar from 11pm to 1:30am )
There are some very good places on Grande-Allée such as Dagobert (2 for 1 on Thursday), Ozone, Le Maurice and sometimes Vogue is nice too. They are all very close. On Laurier Boulevard, there is a place named Ozone Laurier which is, IMO very nice on Friday (don't go there too late because the line-up are f****** insane. There is also The Liquor Store very close to it on Hochelaga Blvd. On Monday, if you bring an empty 12-pack they will give you 6 beers inside. You can bring one 12-pack per 2 persons and there is a cover charge which is 4$ if I'm not mistaken. You could also go to The Palladium beside Charest Highway and DuVallon Hgy (Wednesday and Saturday). Pichet (60oz) are 8$ before 11pm and then 12$ after 11. Some deals on shooters too. Wednesday it is the ladies night...the bar is full of hot chiks wanting to get drunk and.... Saturday are insane too but people are younger (17 to 24 range). |

If you have any more questions, just ask them don't be shy.
I know that a lot of Ontarians go on Grande-Allée. May be you would have more fun there. |

I have a question....on the map there is a nice size island probably larger than Manhattan that sits a few miles northeast of Quebec City. When I looked at the map I began to wonder why that island was never colonized in the middle of the St. Lawrence River like Montreal. Anyway, have an answer for that?

The island you are talking about is Île d'Orléans. I don't have the real answer for your question but I can suppose some things.
Québec City is founded on a hill named Cap Diamand (approximately 90 meters high). This position had (and still has) very good advantages. At that time they could see the enemies coming from far away as Cap Diamand is the highest hill in the area. By that they could be warned if an invasion was imminent. Situated just beside the St-Lawrence River, Québec which means " where it gets narrower " had some control on the ships using the river. Then the city developed around downtown and so on. However as Île d'Orléans is farther and much more isolated than other areas (it is only linked to a SUBURB of Québec by ONE bridge) people prefer to live in a more urban area. It is now colonized by some very expensive houses. The view of downtown Québec from the island is very exclusive. I know some people that plan to live there when they retire |
