CHARLOTTE: New 19,000 seat Arena

Charlotte just completed their new $265M Charlotte Bobcats Arena. It's primary tenet is the NBA Charlotte Bobcats along with WNBA Charlotte Sting, and ECHL Charlotte Checkers. Here are the construction photos from begining to end. It is located in downtown Charlotte right on the future Light Rail line.

It took about 2 years to complete construction. The Arena is multipurpse, however it was mainly designed for basketball. It also houses our ice hockey team and hosts concerts (U2 is coming next month!!!), circus, horse shows, and Arenacross dirt bike competions.

Mo Rush, I don't think the arena is pretty...it was designed to look like a big factory on the outside and I think they succeded in that matter...however the inside is extremely nice.

You can take a 360 degree tour of the Arena Interior here:

There is also this photo montage of Opening Night at the New Arena with the Rolling Stones:

Great looking stadium ... wish we had something similar here!!!

How did the stadium handle the U2 concert ... i.e. how would you rate it acoustically? I've heard that Reliant Stadium (Houston) although designed primarily for football (hence much larger!) is horrible for concerts. Hope this one hasn't suffered a similar fate!

At least this brings the Bobcats closer to downtown Charlotte whearas Charlotte Colliseum was pretty distant from it.

Looks like a top-notch facility, also sweet that they have the skyline above the scoreboard!

Do you know what that big thing on the oversized trailer is?

Well, arenas are seldome a very pretty sight, often simply because of their massive structure, located in urban areas....Taking that into account, i think they did a pretty good job on this one....

Anyways, how many seats does it hold for basketball games and how many for concerts?
