Anyone notice the bare concrete core from the south view of the building? Like a big grain silo... not what I would call a successful solution. Sure the building looks great from the north, but us south-siders are forced to se the “back” view of this concrete shaft… giving everyone living south of Roosevelt “the SHAFT”!!

I discussed this with people involved with the project during the summer of 2008. They were excited to explain that the developer decided to invest in this building by installing "dummy" curtain wall systems the entire height of the core to match the existing curtain wall systems. I was very impressed that the developer didn't "value engineer" this and decide to simply paint the concrete (as we in Chicago have seen WAY too often).

So throughout the summer, I watched a couple of very lucky curtain wall installers taking their sweet old time working up the concrete core (they are not effecting any other schedules on site, they are basically on their own). I was amazed by the slow pace of the installation as the summer and autumn months passed. I even asked the GC captain about this and he was aware of the slow installation. He said that he needed to push these guys on a weekly basis to get them motivated.

Well, I have not seen any progression on the curtain wall for many months. Has this been “value engineered”?

Have the developers decided to take back the curtain wall system all together or are just on hold?

They are fully underway with the construction of the adjacent high rise, so I am assuming that they are going to resume the curtain wall installation at a later date… but I am a very optimistic person…

Assemblage23 - It's the backside of the Pritzker bandshell.

Sandeman - The core will still be clad. There was an error involving the original glass; the developer is waiting for new glass.

OMP on far right. It's easy in this pic to see how high the glass progresses as indicated by the golden reflection of the sunlight.
