Leeds
this summer, i had an afternoon off and happened to go take pics in Leeds the same day that nick_taylor did (his thread here)
it was a beautiful day of almost constant downpours. by the end of the afternoon i was soaked but happy after drinking a few pints. too bad i couldn't have stayed until it got dark, but i wanted to get back to Durham before the pubs closed. anyway, Leeds is a kickass city that's booming, and full of nice people, too. PBase is having issues (again,) so if there's trouble loading, hit refresh or "show picture." first, a few sunny pics from 2004 when i went through the train station nice view from the train station -

Most interesting. Good one of the Queens Hotel - the finest building in Leeds in my opinion!

Nice one mate - shows off a cool gritty side to Leeds that I haven't seen before on these forums.
Plenty of character - just what I like to see!

thanks.
Queens Hotel is gorgeous, but i think i'll go with one of the Victorian buildings as the finest. so many beautiful buildings in Leeds though. David, looking back on these i was reminded a bit of your "Bladerunner" thread; if only it had gotten dark earlier. but like i said, i wanted to get back to Durham before pubs closed. -

City of Leeds
I came to Leeds in 1966. My first impressions were not good. Over the years I have adopted Leeds as my home city and have come to love this once great industrial and textile city renowned the world over.

Thank you both for the photos....
You did Leeds MUCH more justice than another poster who posted a 'poll' to rate the skyline. The pictures are excellent and the city is great. I went to Leeds a few years ago and I only have happy memories of the place, including Leeds United (hopefully, they'll be back in the Prem soon where they belong). |

Ah, home. I miss it so...
It's nice to see a few more 'honest' pics of Leeds, rather than an attempt at a glitsy, glamerised version that most pictures of any city will show. Love it! Subliving.

Interesting to see images from 2004; so much has changed in such a short amount of time!

like them very much - a good contrast there. The arcades, market, Corn Exchange and Town Hall are great focal points for historic Leeds which have be treated with respect in the face of rampant redevelopment.
