Individually designed, each building is quite nice...but grouped together it's far too lego-city. 2 @ the most would've been great, 20 of the bastards is another story. So the idea of getting all these new talls to extend the skyline sounded fantastic, but in reality the effect is ending up dull.

Having said that, I do appreciate all the pic posts - all the different angles of Toronto! ...and yay for the last 2 aerials by skyscraper03.

Looks like Vancouver

I'm sure it has been said before but Toronto is starting to look like Vancouver.

Which direction will CityPlace towers face? I ask because one of the niecest parts of condos in Vancouver's downtown core is that they catch the late light and seem to glow for a few minutes after dusk has fallen at street level. I'm not sure if I will be able to find a photo...

Toronto's City Place is being developed by Concord, which is the developer for Concord Pacific Place — a $3Billion+ 204 acre master planned development expected to house about 15,000 people in 9,000 units in Vancouver's False Creek North. I believe it may still the largest single residential master planned project in North America. It began in the mid ninties and is still building out. To date about 30 of the 50+ buildings are complete, most of which are towers or 8-12 storey midrises. The apartments and townhouses sold out far in advance of construction and a good chunk were pre-sold in real estate fairs in Hong Kong. Integral to the project is the use of the "Vancouver Model" residential towers. Vancouver invented the typology that marries a 15-40+ story small floor-plate (~6500 sq feet)residential tower with two to five storey townhouse podium. For Concord Pacific Place these towers are nestled in microneighbourhoods surrounded by some 50 acres of parks, a landscaped pedestrian seawall, an elementary school, community centre, several grocery stores, many dozen retail stores, a costco, marinas, etc. A subway is going into the very heart of it at Davie St. and Pacific Blvd and on the eastern edge there is a station for SkyTrain automated rapid tranist.

Former City Councillor Gordon Price gives the Vancouver Model a full run-down at this link: http://www.djc.com/news/co/11149498.html

You should see it in person, it looks pretty good. A lot better than used up railway lands.

The other night I walked through there and was just WOW... it was evening, getting dark, all the lights coming on and... it just looked amazing! My friends who were with me (walking back to my place, which isn't @ Cityplace) were quite excited by it! (and they aren't urbanity freaks usually...)

Just a little neat fact for all you CityPlace lovers out there from around the world: (I think there are a few of you.)

CityPlace is actually the name that was being used on an office/residential project of towers in the 1970's in Toronto. The CN Tower was going to be the centrepiece of the development, and the railroad tracks were all going to be shifted to the south/ closer to the water. It was a project that was being created by private companies in conjunction with public/government corporations...sadly, it all fell through. That was a massive project that most Torontonians these days seem to have no clue... just one of the many now-hidden pieces of our history. I do, however, think it's awesome that the CityPlace name was given back to the area for this development... sort of gives some closure to that whole story. And... in the end, although it's not quite a centrepiece, the CN Tower complements the development quite nicely.

It's a new development by the same people doing CityPlace, though not a part of CityPlace itself. It's apparently going somewhere south of the Gardiner and east of Bathurst.

About CityPlace, when it's finished, how much area will it cover?
