JOHANNESBURG: Michelangelo Tower (140 m/ 459 ft)

MICHELANGELO TOWER
Downtown Sandton, Johannesburg
(Sandton is a suburban municipality in Johannesburg, South Africa)

Height: 140m / 459 ft.
Floors: 34
Architect: Bental Abramson and Partners
Developer: Legacy Holdings

Notes:
- This will be the tallest building in Sandton when completed.
- The tower will tie into the Sandton Square Office, hotel and retail complex as well as the Sandton city complex, in a complicated manner, which will make the building one large mixed-use precinct, all interconnected
- The building is now officially 140m tall and 34 stories due to the demand for additional apartments.
- Lowrise residential component is built around Nelson Mandela Square

Wow. That building belongs to another age, the interiors as well. I think it's something it do with the renders as well - they looks like old sketches. I don't really like it.

This render is a bit more modern


So this is the tallest building UC in South Africa right now? Although it must be nearly finished now, just looking at the thread in the SA forums these pics a a few months old. It's a shame the webcam on the website isn't working - does it ever?

Noperz... we have many taller towers going up... but they are far from being completed.

It's in the greater area...

hey, you're from Toronto... it's like how all your condo towers in North York and 'Scarberia' get put under TORONTO so that they can get some attention too.

There's a greater Johannesburg, too, ya know...

But both Scarborough and North York are part of the city of Toronto... they're not in any "greater area". But it doesn't really matter. What matters is the development and for people who might not know where "Sandton" is, then the title is at least somewhat helpful.

I kinda like the heavy stone look of it. It suits the name too. I don't see a 'Michelangelo Tower' being all light n glassy. (They could get away with building it in Rome, no probs).
