That's my bit of political satire for the year - I bet Ian Hislop is quaking in his boots!

- and on issue of the thread; Cotswold street goes nowhere, is all of 30 metres long, and the remaining seciton is entirely under platforms 13 and 14 of the station. Baiscally it is a railway arch that happened - once upon a time - to constitute a right of way. Not sure if it sets a precedent. |

We have too many little bitty roads in the city centre. The more of these short stretches of pointless road are pedestrainised the better. Lets keep cars on proper roads / routes and give the rest over to pedestrians, who, after all, are the majority users in the city centre.

In the long run i think we'll see a major resurgance in city centres (if it hasn't started already) as it looks as though car use might be curtailed to an extent that out of town shopping (mostly requiring a car to visit) will no longer be as accessible and convenient for shoppers. Public transport will likely prioritise the city centre and people will again demand shops to be inthe retail core as it will be more accessible. Anyway, sorry to go off topic... |

The problem with pedestrianation is it allows the anti social's far more scope for bad behaviour. Many non car centres become no go aswell late at night when businesses close. Motorist's deter bad behaviour because they can report it immediatly with little threat to themselves, who knows who is in the car....it could be an unmarked police vehicle!

Now this is how to convert a 60s/70s building well.I have very high standards when it comes to this sort of thing and it gets the Longford seal of approval.

Nice Pics Highriser - it certainly is coming on. My only concern is what are they going to do at ground level to entice people to it who aren't necessarily staying at the hotel - it is slightly isolated across them busy roads.
