London Heathrow Terminal 5

HEEAATHROOOOOOOOW!!!!!

Heathrow Terminal 5 will be used exclusively by British Airways and Qantas
and the terminal and two satellites will add capacity for a further 30 million
passengers per year - taking Heathrow's total to ~100 million passengers per
year:

Somewhat dated construction pics of HT5:

And this is not the only expansion planned for Heathrow. BAA have recently unveiled plans to replace terminals 1 and 2 in an equally massive development. The main terminal and first satellite of Heathrow Terminal 5 will be complete by 2008 and the second satellite by 2011. The new Terminal 2 aims to complete by 2012 in time for the London Olympics:

The government also plans to add three new runways to London/SE - either at Heathrow or fast-growing Stansted, and also to extend the runway at Luton. London airports already handle more traffic than any other city in the world but these projects will increase the lead further. Current traffic:

- London Heathrow = 67,592,206
- London Gatwick = 32,602,767
- London Stansted = 21,881,437
- London Luton = 8,974,023
- London City = 1,955,982
London total = 133,006,415

How come only British Airways and Qantas will be able to use the terminal?

BTW Great Terminal!

There will be five floors inside mate, that's why it is so high. The design is nice I think, but nothing ground breaking.

fantastic to hear ol' Heath is FINALLY getting her due...

she should be rather sparkling in just a few more years time~~

yeah, agree with landscape: design of T5 is somehow generic in a modern-way, but maybe it's just the renders themselves

totally ridiculous comment just because someone doesnt share the same opinion as you.........
and btw. Zurich is one of the best airports in Europe by the way IMO

Its gonna be a great terminal I must say, I saw it from above when in London last time two weeks ago. As said i think its gonna be nothing spectacular but very good !

I think terminal 2 really does need to get upgraded soon and thats the case so its good

Probably because British Airways is the biggest user of the airport and QANTAS will be allowed in because they codeshare with BA.

Thanx for the update Monkey ! Luton is fast becoming the next Stansted in terms of growth.
Any decision made after the SERAS ? what about Stansted ? has the new runaway be given the full go ahead ? long time since i havent checked.

Terminal 5 and its satellite terminals will be connected by underground walkways, right ? I always thought it is cool to have an airplane running over my head ! (I meant running overhead)

It is nice to see London updating its infrastructure for the upcoming 2008 Olympics with new airport terminals and new High Speed Rail Stations.

The design is OK, but the building is certainly big, and anything big is good enough for me.

By the way, this thread should be in the Transportaion Section.
