Actually I think Arkia made the order for the 787's before the Kuwaiti leasing company.

Any news on leasing the 787?
I really hope they get these new a/c, those 767 and 757 are in terrible condition.
During Q1 2006 El-Al completed a renovation of it's 767 fleet's business class to include new electrically operated seats, which are also larger, have more space between the rows and include a personal phone.

It also upgraded its entire 737 and 757 fleet's business class seats into farther reclinable seats, and enlarged space between the rows.

Whats going on with the new Business Class seats in the 777? I heard somehwhere they were planning on having two business classes a premium version and a regular version.
Ly promised about a year ago to have new seats, from what I understand they will only get the new seats in the two 777 that will be delivered this summer. Only after they fly a bit LY will decide if to install throughout the fleet. Which could take another 6 - 8 months, so it will only be in a year tiem.
So it took them two years to get these new seats.
In the meantime I really dread having to fly LY business class.
On the 747-400s and 777s El Al is going to offer 2 classes, Business and Business premuim (instead of First) , the difference will be that the premium will include lie-flat seats (beds), whereas the regular Business will include seats similar to the new ones on the 767 (see above). When they announced it in Feb 06 they said that it may take up to 3 years (until Feb 09??), but this is probably just a disclaimer and my guess is that it will probably take a shorter time. Upgrade works will start this summer (2007).

I'll try to find whether the new class will already be available on the new 777s, I don't know yet...

That I know, but that was only in business.
What about economy? Can you imagine flying 12 - 14 hours (BKK, HKG MIA) with no entertainment system and those old seats in economy?
The situation today is that I prefer the 767 in business but the 744 and 777 in economy. (In the 744, those screens are too small)

Are they going to change all the interior on the 744 and 777? also economy? I was invited over a year ago to an event to choose the new seats in Y and J. They had very comfortable Y seats with big screens and a cool entertainment system. I hope to see them soon.
You dont need to check if new 777 will come with the new interior, I know they will. The two a/c will actually be pilot for then new interior.

As for 2 business class, its a shame. I think TAM have also 2 business class, it sound a bit confusng.
Do you know how the configuration will be? How many seats in each class?
What will they sell as in which cabin? C, I D, W???
Will it still be possible to upgrade from Y to C? or is it Y to regualr business?

I heard that israel plans to buy over 100 F-35 fighters and i found an article about it in

www.defenseindustrydaily.com

In an exclusive interview, Israeli Air Force (IAF) chief procurement officer Brigadier-General Ze'ev Snir told Israel's Globes publication that F-35 Joint Strike Fighter was a key part of their IAF recapitalization plans, and that Israel intends to buy over 100 of the fighters to replace their F-16s over time. The 100-plane deal will cost at least $5 billion by Israeli estimates, and will be the F-35A conventional take-off Air Force version. Snir added that "The IAF would be happy to equip itself with 24 F-22s but the problem at this time is the US refusal to sell the plane, and its $200 million price tag."

Access to the F-35's software source code remains a live issue for the Israelis, as it has been with the Australians [PDF format], British, and others. That access is necessary for countries that want to upgrade the aircraft's computers, and/or integrate new weapons, communications, or electronic warfare systems. Israeli planes generally undergo heavy modifications to incorporate Israeli electronics and weapons systems, and the F-35 will be no exception. The US has allowed the Israelis access to the F-15 and F-16's software after development was complete, and Snir is confident the F-35A's computers will not be an issue. He reiterated that there was "no dispute with the US that IAF F-35s would include Israeli communications and electronic warfare technologies and missiles developed by Rafael Armament Development Authority Ltd."

Israel is also reportedly considering several near-term IAF procurements, including a possible buy of 6 C-130J Hercules transports plus associated support & equipment at a cost of about $500 million, as well as a $100 million upgrade of Sikorsky CH-53 Super Stallion helicopters to extend their operational lifespan by 20 years.

this fighter is one of the most advanced fighters on earth ,it can do vertical take off

you can see a video about this fighter on

due to structural failors, cracks at the airplane body, that can happen near squre corners of regular windows.

That's usually true, but the F117 for example doesn't have a round cockpit window.

I think it's only true for supersonic fighters (and still not all of them), and the reason is more likely that they need an undisturbed panoramic view outside the window for dogfights and such, and also for high G maneouvers. When you remove the metal beams, the most structurally firm shape is a round shape. It's also more aerodynamic.

Btw it's not true for all supersonic aircraft - for example the Concorde has a flat front window for supersonic speeds...

completely unneccessary. The major aspect of this plane is that it can take off vertically like a helicopter. It multi-purpose plane that will be used by the US Navy and Air Force.

Im not a big fan of this plane. It is slow and what would the Israeli Air Froce need a plane that takes of vertically for.

EBA ,you wrong ,this plane can fly in supersonic speeds (faster than the speed of sound)it's not like the harier plane.

you can read about this plane on

www.airforce-technology.com/projects/jsf/

and on

Max speed is only Mach 1.8. The F-15 can go to Mach 2.5

It makes little difference if it's 1.8 or 2.3 when they can't trace you on the radar...

Anyway, Isreal is going to get the normal takeoff version precisely because we don't need vertical takeoff. We need it for the stealth.

Thats a better idea. The normal version should be a lot cheaper.
