Oldest cities of Europe?

Well I know the oldest city in the West is probably Rome in the East its Kiev, in the South its Athens, north by my account is Dublin, but putting them in order oldest to rescent what would the list look like, by my estimation.

Athens
Rome
Dublin
Paris
London
Kiev

Correct me if Im wrong, and add on please.

PS is this the correct thread to discuss this?

A bit weird that you count Rome as a western and Dublin as a northern city.

According to Wikipedia Dublin was first mentioned in 140 AD as "Eblana".

Cologne was founded in 38 BC or 19 BC as "Oppidium Ubiorum" the city of the germanic ubian tribe, who collaborated with the romans at this place. Shortly later it became a roman town and province capital as "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium"

Capitol cities mainly, because Rome most definately had established many more older cities, than those of in Germany area or anywhere else for that matter, same goes for the Greeks.

Thanks for the info, keep it coming.

I classified the cities according to location, although Rome could also be considered Southern/Western.

In Spain is usually said that the city of Cadiz is the oldest one in Europe, don't know how true may it be. But what is a fact is that it was founded as a Phoenician colony around 1100 BC.

In fact, if you search the results in google for "oldest city in Europe" apparently it seems to be true.

In France, Marseille is known for being the oldest city of the country.
It was founded by Greeks in 600 BC.
So the city is 2,600 years old.

it depends.
Sofia is seen as among the oldest in Europe, it's been continuisly settled since the neolithic, first being called serdika, then sredets. In any case, it's a thracian town

Kyiv was officially founded in 482AD, which makes it exactly 1523 years old. But there is recent archiological evidence that Kyiv is much older.
