Yeah the HQ will remain in Dallas (actually Fort Worth, but whatever). That was one of the conditions for the merger, plus the HQ facilities at DFW are more valuable overall than the US Airways HQ in Tempe since it has the training facilities there and the flight simulators, not to mention more office space.

If that's the case, we'll see American Eagle operating E170s all over the place, as well as American operating the A320 and A330 families... Hopefully, AA will finally retire its MD-80s once it consolidates with US Airways to finally modernize its fleet.

Thrown Off a United Airlines Flight for Taking Pictures!

http://upgrd.com/matthew/thrown-off-...-pictures.html

Live and Let's Fly has been silent the last three days as I weighed how I wanted to cover what happened to me on a United Airlines flight from Newark to Istanbul last week. The situation was both traumatizing and highly embarrassing and I wanted to ensure that I had ample time to consider what transpired before hurling any accusations or failing to understand the other side. But frankly, the more I replay the incident in my mind, the more certain I become that I was wronged. Here's my story:

Last Thursday I was scheduled to fly from Newark to Istanbul on United's direct flight. The 767-300 was outfitted in a two-cabin configuration, staffed by a legacy United crew, and I had been upgraded to business class. It was my first time on this reconfigured aircraft and my first longhaul in the Continental BusinessFirst seat. Naturally, I wanted to provide a review for you.

read more: http://upgrd.com/matthew/thrown-off-...-pictures.html

he got kicked out for taking this

man the fear after 9/11 on some people just has not gone why so paranoid????

why on earth is taking photos a security issue? There are tens of thousands of interior photos in Airliners.net for the terrorist to use so what is the use of enforcing this rule anyway? If this kind of paranoia goes on Osama Bin Laden is probably rolling in the sea laughing.

When I saw the tail for the new AA for the first time, it does not make me feel that it is a proud airline; rather, it has the feeling that it has downgraded its quality a lot. I'd rather see the logo placed along with the word "American" on the tail rather than a modernized version of the American flag. I then wonder, what will it take to make memorable logos nowadays, especially with American carriers?

With US Airways leaving Star Alliance to OneWorld at what point do points collected shift alliances? If I book now for a trip say in August on US Airways which alliance will the mileage points go to? The merger is slated to be finalized in the third fiscal quarter this year, so is it just a matter of when they finalize everything?

I think it will be a few more month's before US Airways will switch alliances. If I remember correctly it took United and Delta about a year to merge with Northwest and Continental for example with combining their reservations systems, FAA certificates, etc and Southwest is still working on combining their reservations system with Air Tran. In other words don't expect the merger process to be instantaneous.

If that's the case, the most likely aircraft that will be used for the route would be their A330-200. Hopefully, though, it will acquire even more of that aircraft since it's fuel-efficient, modern, and has way better seating than AA's B767s.

What design would you rather have for American Airlines? I believe that the tail logo looks a bit bland, if not bad...
