I think they want to diffuse the light coming in. I believe earlier in this thread when some thought there weren't going to be any ETFE, they were complaining the shadows cast from criss-crossing framework was going to ruin the athletes' eye perception.

The ETFE is clear but an additional layer of PTFE is adding to reduce noise pollution. I think this will only be added to the roof of the stadium.

I think most work now is for the finishing... No major external differences, so they don't bother showing (as there's few to show).
These Olympics will be impressive... But I don't think I'll ever go to China. Soooooooooo far away...

I hope that's just some covering. That does not look like the artist renditions. And any news about one side of the building was going to be a giant TV screen so that people outside can watch the game inside? Last I heard that they didn't know if the technology was going to be available by the time the venue was completed.
